Around this time, he also answered an ad for singers that Thomas Edison had put out.

And he recorded for Edison Records from 1916 to 1923.

He recorded for a variety of record companies, but he also worked for years for the Edison Company, doing a thing where they, Edison's whole argument was that his equipment reproduced the human voice more accurately competing products, Edison was still recording on cylinders and putting out, releasing records on cylinders rather than discs long into the teens after his rivals, RCA, or not, it wasn't RCA yet, but Victor and other record companies were putting out discs.

And so Edison was sort of making this claim of quality.

But that was before Vernon's time.

Anyway, so he picked the name Vernon Dalhart for the operatic stage, not for a country, to be a country performer.

And then after his tenure with Edison Records, He spent from 1916 to 1923 recording for multiple record companies.

He recorded between 300 and 400 records of light classical music, early dance band vocals for multiple labels.
