Eddie Fogler

Sasha ranks 15th in Shocker history both, with 1,463 points and 710 rebounds, and it's a pretty select list of former Shockers who are in the top 15 of both.

Sasha played for Gene Smithson as a freshman, the remainder of his career with Coach Eddie Fogler.

He is originally from Podgorica.

Did I pronounce that correctly? I worked on that a lot.

... will definitely be familiar with that.

That's, that's, that's amazing because Gene, Gene was a special kind of guy, truly, truly special kind of guy.

So the Shocker teams that you played on played in the 1987 and '88 NCAA tournaments, 1989 NIT, all of those under Coach Eddie Fogler.

Tell us a little bit about those teams and what, what made them successful.

I mean, first of all, when I was being recruited, he was the third assistant at North Carolina.

Bill Guthridge, Eddie Fogler, Roy Williams.

And he was the one that really got the closest to the players because he was there all the time.

You know, Eddie Fogler and Bill Guthridge were maybe out recruiting.

Roy would check classes.

Roy would check the dorm room.

I land at Raleigh-Durham Airport, going to baggage claim.

The assistant coach from Duke is there with me.

The real perks, I'd say the number one best thing is that you are in fact playing Carolina basketball.

You are... own a carolina your own a carolina basketball team and the carolina jv basketball team was coached by dean's assistant coaches and so people like now this is before me because he's but people like roy williams eddie fogler bill guthridge those men historically had coached the jv basketball teams Before, I mean, they kind of got the assignment.

Coach Smith would say, okay, this is your year.

You're going to coach.
