it's less so it feels like relatively it feels like less which might be true but i think the better theory is that when you're 10 you like maybe you haven't kicked a football before you haven't seen a scene you've probably seen a rainbow before but like you know the color purple or there's so many more new experiences you're meeting new people at school you're changing school like things are happening and your brain is just much more alert to it all and taking in a lot more detail than when you're 40 and you know you're cooking you're stuck in a rut of cooking the same meals every week you wake up at the same time when your alarm goes off you do the commute you do the job take the kids to school blah blah blah like annoyingly life gets boring as you get older And what that means is your brain is just like, oh, yeah, I know this, but I don't need to pay attention.

And like, you know, you drive to you drive to work, you drive to school and you get there and you're like, I don't remember any of how that journey happened.

And it's just because your brain's just not really paying attention.

It knows how to do it.

It just doesn't need to be on.

And when you look back on that year, what memory you don't have as many memories to build on because your brain isn't taking in any more detail.
