Edale

She started north and went south.

So she finished in Edale this morning.

And she did like 69 hours.

The record, I think, was 72 hours.

Along the, so she was doing an FKT for the Pennine Way.

So from Edale to Kirkyatome in Scotland, 250. what is it? 238 miles.

Yeah.

Um, so she, she, she ended up not being able to finish it in the summer.

He'd done a full day at work.

He caught that.

He drove to Edale.

He lives in Manchester, drove to Edale.

This overwhelming realization of their enemy's sophistication leaves the investigators desperate for any semblance of control, which provides crucial context for their deeply paranoid, highly irrational pivot the very next morning.

Yes, the detour to Lesser Edale.

It makes no tactical sense otherwise.

I was tracking their intended timeline, and they're supposed to be preparing for their departure to Cairo.

So the documentation of this detour is steeped in a suffocating atmosphere of rain and paranoia.

It's a very bleak section.

They drive into the rolling, bleak limestone hills of Derbyshire, arriving at the tiny village of Lesser Edale.

And the visual language recorded here is classic folk horror.

Um, I think that's a, an, a, a big question to, to cover.

Um, but the Spine Race, so I did the Spine Race in June, um, the, it is, um, a 268 mile or there or thereabouts, um, route, uh, from Edale in the Peak District up to Kirk Yetholm, um, which is on the Scottish borders.

Um, they say it's about 37,000 feet of elevation.

My watch says it's nearer 40,000 feet, um, of elevation.

... and drove him to Edale.

Yeah.

Yeah.

He finds a copy of the Derbyshire Advertiser, and right there, printed in the local news, is a story about the Beast of Lesser Edale.

A seemingly standard piece of rural British folklore.

Right.

And then a tougher one, the one I was most worried about for my knee.

We started in Edale and went up to Kinder Scout.

Yeah.

So the highest point in Derbyshire.

[laughs] He's just completed fastpacking the Pennine Way in six days, 11 hours, and 10 minutes.

Felix ran the Edale skyline on the 27th of June with the amazing Poles and Crocs running group as their annual summer event, and then decided to run home on Sunday the 28th, missing Northumberland-
