Ed Maverick

For The World, I'm Esteban Bustillos in Boston.

When he was 16, the Mexican singer Ed Maverick catapulted from his small town in the northern state of Chihuahua to YouTube fame with songs about heartbreak.

At 17, he released his first album with this smash hit song.

[singing]

Marcos Hassan is a music journalist based in Mexico City who writes for Rolling Stone magazine and other publications.

He says some of the biggest artists in the world right now are from Latin America, like Bad Bunny and Karol G, but Ed Maverick's music offers something completely different.

There's nothing that's gonna put it into a time and a place.
