Ecosystem

Having written 10 books on martial arts, 11 books on martial arts, they know me through Filipino martial arts, Escrima Arnis, some people call it Kali, and through Chinese Kung Fu practices, right? Five Ancestor Fist and Wing Chun and other systems that I've written about and been teaching about.

uh and other people know me uh from my former life as dr mark wiley as a doctor of um acupuncture and oriental medicine and then like they want to know well what how how do all of these things fit together and what can that do for me well i built a website about a year ago and um i do want to share it with you because i want to talk about this thing that i call the inner life ecosystem and it is based on my experiences my teachers and what they've given to me and also on how I see things fitting together because in martial arts in 1997 or 98, I created a training methodology called integrated modular training and it was just made for martial arts.

I was trying to figure out how to teach the martial arts more effectively to integrate different skills together.

But over the decades since then, It's the same method that I use to integrate and develop my meditative practices, my contemplative practices, my Qigong and Negong energy work, right? Stillness practices, Taoist practices, and martial arts.

So let me see what I can do.

Okay, so this is the inner life with mark wiley.com website, everything on the website is free of charge, except for if you wanted to purchase one of the $7 items there, or sign up for a one on one session with me, inner life, this is how I'm defining it.

And this is why it's important for the talk I'm giving on the ecosystem.

And that sounds like an interesting word, because what does ecosystem or ecology have to do with the practices that we do? Well, inner life is a place for embodied practice, thoughtful inquiry and conversations on human development.

And I want to end today with something that brought together all of these threads in a way that I found genuinely moving, because it's not just a story about primates in trouble.

It's a story about what happens when ecosystems find a way against the odds.

Researchers writing for phys.org recently highlighted something quietly remarkable.

Some ecosystems are actually thriving, despite climate change, despite habitat loss, despite everything being stacked against them.

And among the examples they cited were chimpanzee communities in West Africa, in regions where local protections, community-based conservation, and shifts in cultural attitude toward wild animals have created pockets of genuine recovery.

Now, this isn't cause for complacency.
