Eclipse Foundation

So the first question that pops in probably a lot of people's brains at this moment is, but there's already foundations that exist for this.

You know, you've got the Linux Foundation, you've got the Eclipse Foundation, you've got the Apache Foundation.

Why do we need another foundation or whatever you call it in the U.K.?

Yeah, there are so many reasons for this.

And you sprinkled this in in your last kind of explanation.

And you talk about like code hosting and sovereignty.

And you talk about, you know, like your plumber person who created a project was like, where is everybody? I think there's an aspect of this that sometimes people don't understand with open source, which is you can technically open source anything, but there's definitely a draw to projects that are hosted in, we'll say, some known entity, like the Linux Foundation, the Apache Foundation, the Eclipse Foundation.

And I think the one thing I'll sprinkle on top of that is there have been a bunch of like rug pulls in the corporate world lately where someone releases a product open source.

So we give each other more visibility or support each other.

So for example, we have, I mean, of course, Linux Foundation is one of our partners, Eclipse Foundation.

One of our recent partners is the Erlang Ecosystem Foundation.

So we work together with other open source communities We also have associate members that could be one-people companies doing open source.

And we're in the process, like our development team is in the process of working on that tool.

publication to have the disclosure portal as open source it's under the it's going to be hosted under the eclipse foundation as well um right now it's at the stage where it's a proposal that's accepted so it's already there the code is not there yet you know we have to work on some stuff internally but um the plan is this year and you know so we talked to other people at open source conferences.

And every time we talk about SBOMs with other companies, then they seem to be quite interested in this tool.

And so we wanted to publish it actually a bit sooner, but it's complicated.

And our development team is working really hard on this tool and also on the publication as open source.

So you should see this under the Eclipse Foundation sometime in 2025 still.

And then hopefully this is a tool that can be really useful to others as well.

I have a good feeling about this.

I have been, I'm an open source fan.

I was invited by IBM back in the early 2000s to help start a foundation called the Eclipse Foundation, which was my first entry into open source governance, which has taken me on quite a ride.

At the time, I had co-founded a company called OpenMix Software.

We were the first company to realize that we had a problem when the build space and we needed to tighten it up.

And conferences, participation at a conference is a training, is a form of training.

So that is accepted here as well as, you know, I want to learn on open source, I will attend the open source summit or the OCX conference from the Eclipse Foundation or whichever, right? So that is understood and that is usually accepted as well.

And, you know, what's the alternative to having to training your people.

I mean, you don't train your people, right? So it's not a good idea.
