Ecclesiastes 5

Look at what this verse says here.

The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 5 that God created it all for our enjoyment.

If God gives us wealth and property and he lets us enjoy them, we should be grateful and enjoy what we have.

We should enjoy what we've got.

We will put our faith in them.

And when we do, here's a passage for you to jot down, Ecclesiastes 5.10, you will never be secure enough in those.

In other words, you will learn to love money and you'll have to have more of it to feel secure.

And the more you love it, the more you'll have to love it.

That's where we get to this concept of addiction.

You will be addicted in having more.

And if you love money, here's how Solomon put in Ecclesiastes 5, you'll never have enough.

And whoever loves wealth will never be satisfied.

There's no excuse.

Ecclesiastes 5 verse 10, he who loves money will not be satisfied with money nor he who loves wealth with his income.

This is also vanity.

You're never gonna have enough to be satisfied.

Solomon understood that.

In Ecclesiastes 5, verses 15 and 16, he said, people who live only for wealth come to the end of their lives as naked and empty-handed as on the day they were born.

You're gonna be as naked the day you die as the day you were born.

Ain't that a sobering thought? You know what he's saying? He said, just as you came into this world with nothing, you leave with nothing.

When you set your eyes on money, it is gone, for wealth certainly makes itself wings and like an eagle that flies toward the heavens." Money can increase stress, Solomon said.

In Ecclesiastes 5:12, he said, "The sleep of the working man is pleasant, whether he eats little or much." A person who doesn't have a lot, he's able to sleep at night.

He's not worried about his finances and what he's going to do with all of his money.

"But the full stomach of the rich man does not allow him to sleep." Solomon said money can rob us of present joy in this life.

In Ecclesiastes 5:13, he said, "There is a grievous evil which I've seen under the sun: riches being hoarded by their owner to his hurt." So given the benefits of money and also the limitations of money, Proverbs tells us what a reasonable goal for us ought to be in our finances, and it's found in Proverbs 30.

Look at verse eight.

We read this just a moment ago.

Uh, let's see.

Solomon, uh, s- talks about dreams in Ecclesiastes 5:3.

He says, "A dream," and he's the wisest man, so let's see.

Do you know? Should we take it? Solomon wasn't perfect either, so again, [sighs] we have to look at that in scripture too.

Like, so it says, "A dream comes when there are many cares, and many words mark the speech of a fool." [lips smack] So, um, let's continue on reading this.

Well, actually...

Okay, I'm gonna read verses, Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 because I think this is relevant and important.

"Guard your steps when you go to the house of God.

We think we don't make enough, but the real issue is that we want too much.

Ecclesiastes 5.11, the more you have, the more people come to help you spend it.

Man, it's amazing, isn't it? Someone wins the lotto and it's like, wow, I got all these friends around here.

I'm like...

Isn't that amazing? You buy a place to store the things that you're not using.

Right? And all of a sudden, we're anxious, and it just approaches.

This is what Ecclesiastes 5.12 says, which, by the way, if you have self-storage, I'm not coming down on you.

I'm just saying, realize it's like we're a tea bag that's being steeped in our culture, and we need the word of God to go, whoa, wait a minute.
