a while back but the whole thing is all interconnected with michael jackson and weird al like because i was seven when thriller came out in uh late 82 and like the rest of the world the moment i heard thriller i just was like blown away and completely like michael jackson fan from there And then in 1984, Weird Al put out his first album, or I'm sorry, second album in 3D, approached Michael Jackson to do a parody of Beat It.

And I had mentioned this on your show before, but Michael Jackson was beyond the biggest star in the world at that moment, and he had every right to say, who you know what what what is this or be insulted by it or anything but because weird al didn't say to himself oh there's no point even asking michael jackson's like he's not you know like the fact that like from like even a michael jackson standpoint like if you can dream it you can do it or like you know if you can like weird al was just like well i'm gonna ask and see what happens and then so we're now having the the you know wouldn't let something hold him back like you know well that person's bigger than me then michael jackson being kind um michael jackson gave him permission to do eat it and one of the big reasons i became a weird al fan like from uh the eat it parody of beat it wasn't that you know it was funny or michael jackson related or anything it was because um that was literally the first thing that i heard from him and i noticed The difference between Weird Al and anyone else with any sort of commentary on Michael Jackson, even that as early as 84 was he didn't take any shots at Michael Jackson.

Like the whole rest of the world was already doing.

Well, isn't it weird that he wears one glove? And isn't it weird that he's never with, you know, his family or whatever at that time? And so many things that the media was making up and Weird Al could have made a song that folks hunted any of that.

They took one letter off the title of the song, you know, and was like, oh, let me, you know, work this into that.

And literally that was what I noticed was like, this guy's not even, he could be making fun of Michael Jackson and he's not.

Like even in the video for Eat It, when...

Weird Al is sort of parodying Michael Jackson's dance moves.

Just a very beloved artist who is relatable.

You can take a song like Eat It, which...

I mean, I kind of avoided on our episode because it's a quote unquote food song.

But really, when you think about it, it's not just the food song.

Scratch that.

Eat it.

He played Eat It.

And I thought, oh, man, this is going to be great.

But he only played part of it.

Word Crimes is a good song.

I don't need to hear that whole song.
