Eastport

Colleagues remember her not only for her remarkable knowledge and insistence on accuracy, but also for her generosity, wit, and willingness to share what she learned.

And Eastport has declared war on Annapolis.

Again.

The Maritime Republic of Eastport made its annual declaration Monday night ahead of the November 7th tug of war, known as the Slaughter Across the Water, but maybe not this year.

The republic was founded in 1998 after the Spa Creek Bridge closed, and apparently nobody's bothered to negotiate a peace treaty ever since.

This year's battle will be a little bit different because of the city dock construction.

Both teams will tug along 2nd Street in Eastport rather than across Spa Creek.

The Republic does suspect that that change gives Annapolis an unfair advantage.
