E- east, East Iranic is us- used to be called East Iranian, but then, uh, then the thing is that you see they have Middle Iranian.

Now, Middle Iranian languages.

Middle Iranian languages, which include Middle Persian, um, and Middle, uh, Young Avestan, which is m- Middle Scythian according to them, and so on and so on.

So there's the Iranian group or the Persian group, then you say there's the Scythian group.

That's exactly right.

And that's actually the conclusion I came up with in the very end, that East to West points Israel to Messiah.

And I thought, wow, that is really interesting.

They all did infant baptism, but they disagreed East and West.

Should it happen on the eighth day like circumcision or should it happen as soon as possible? Maybe it should be delayed until the end so you can be sure to wash away original sin.

So from the Eastern point of view, that's the West, from the Eastern point of view, they're saying, we never agreed that Rome would have control.

When did we ever have an ecumenical council that agreed that the Roman bishop should have primacy over all the other bishops? Besides, Constantinople is much, by a factor of 10 or 20 times larger than Rome by this point.

Whoever thought that Rome, which has been sacked by the barbarians multiple times, why should that be the most important city and church in all of Christendom? They also had some other disagreements that we might find more petty, but it's amazing.

The papal delegation came and they put right on the altar in Hagia Sophia a bull that, not a cow bull, but a written document bull that excommunicated the patriarch.

Here we are, just wanted you to know, boom, you're out.

Well, what did the patriarch of Constantinople do, but he in turn excommunicated the pope? It wasn't until 1965 that the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church rescinded each other's excommunications.

So what is your sense of when we are? In this point in history, in particular for those of us who've been part of church communities, where are we finding ourselves? Why is it so confusing?

I really believe we're in a dark night of the soul as the church in the West and perhaps places in the East too.

I know we've exported a capitalist version of church all over the world, sadly.

But I believe we're in a dark night of the soul, you know, classically understood where it's spirit-breathed.

Reading that felt yourself like a little bit of a traditionalist, you know, sort of defending, but what about the past? What about the old ways? Which you have loved too, right? So how would you counsel people who have loved traditional church, despite everything, and really do feel this sense of loss and wonder anxiously about what's next?

Yeah, I feel empathy.

You know, something was going on in the Middle East at the time.

I can't remember exactly the situation.

One of the reasons I keep using this particular terminology is that in the whole history of Christian theology, but especially now, In present Christian theology, the idea of not only of participation in God, but the idea of negative theology has made a huge comeback.

And the idea that somehow the Orthodox theology of the so-called Eastern Orthodox Christians is greater than the Western Roman Catholic form of theology is that they in the East retained negative theology.

This is a theme that keeps running throughout.

By the way, that That's not really true, but in any of these great theological movements.

Yes.

So what they do is pick up the Orthodox mysticism, but the mysticism then is compared to the Western mysticism, Roman Catholic mysticism.

And they believe that the Eastern mysticism is better than the Western because, as they say, it's more negative.

Now, why would the more negative be better? The more negative is better because it takes love up a notch from simply loving God because he's so lovable.

Which is to say, by 2200 BC, they'd reached all the way to Britain and Ireland.

In their wake, the genetic makeup of the European population resembled that of modern Europeans, with its three-way mix of Ice Age hunter-gatherer, Near Eastern farmer, and steppe herder.

Genetically, most men carried Y chromosomes that had originated on the steppe.

Culturally, a new social model dominated from the Atlantic to the Caspian.

The discovery of America, the doubling of the Cape of Good Hope, deprived her of her ancient commerce.

She was no longer the link of union between the East and the West.

Her territory was still considerable on the west, where it was bounded by the Ada.

She possessed Ravenna, Cervia, Faenza, Imola, and Rovereto.

So while the Western Roman Empire descended into chaos, the eastern half of the empire had its capital in Byzantium, a city on the Bosphorus Strait that Constantine would later rename Constantinople, thereby paving the way for They Might Be Giants' only mainstream hit.

Constantine moved his headquarters, and thereby the headquarters of the Roman Empire, to Constantinople in 324 CE.

And although the Byzantines spoke Greek, not Latin, they considered themselves Romans, and if they did, we probably should too.

There was a lot of continuity between the old Western Roman Empire and the new Eastern one.

Politically, each was ruled by a single man, sometimes there were two and once there were four, but let's forget about that for now, who wielded absolute military power.

Oh, yeah.

Yeah, there's no doubt, and that, that's especially the case in the Eastern European, uh, appearance.

It was similar in the, in the West, but, but in the East it was even more pronounced.

Yet the treatment of all things Russian by the new regime was ve-very tell-taling, tale-telling.

It will note also that after October, the other socialist parties, the SR and the Mensheviks, who, as we know, had a large number of Jews in their ranks and at their heads, did not stand up against Bolshevism either.

Scarcely aware of the fact that the Bolsheviks had dismissed this constituent assembly, which they had called for, they withdrew, hesitated, divided themselves in their turn, sometimes proclaiming their neutrality in the Civil War, other times their intention to temporize.

As for the SR, they downright opened to the Bolsheviks a portion of the Eastern Front and tried to demoralize the rear of the Whites.

Yeah, so you had Jews in any real leftist movement, from moderate liberals all the way to Bolsheviks.
