East River Tunnels

news.

Amtrak has reopened the East River Tunnel.

Woo! Yeah.

Thank you, Hurricane Sandy, for that one.

I was doing anchoring for CBS radio news for about six hours, and I came out, and as you said, the city was deserted.

And I remember going down to Penn Station to get my train back to Long Island, and you came out of the East River Tunnel, and you'd always see the World Trade Center.

Then it was gone.

We saw nothing but smoke.

And I got down to Penn Station to get my commuter train home.

And you would go under the East River Tunnel and come out and you'd always see the World Trade Center.

To the south, to the right, nothing there, just smoke.

Amazing.
