Boys, I thought just before we get into it, obviously there was a little bit of sad news out of the WA football community over the last 24 hours or so, maybe by the time you've been listening to this.
Blayne TreadgoldHOST
1:31
And, look, we just wanted to send our thoughts and our prayers out to everyone at East Perth Football Club on the passing of Gary Morrell, a well-known football kind of personality, did a lot for East Perth, lovely all-round guy from all reports.
Blayne TreadgoldHOST
1:46
And, well, you know, None of us, particularly the football community, is immune from pain or tragedy, and we've all got various connections, and we all know each other around the traps.
Blayne TreadgoldHOST
1:58
So, look, it's a really tight-knit kind of community, the WA football community, and this one I felt just probably hit a little bit hard when I saw the news on this afternoon, being Tuesday afternoon.
Blayne TreadgoldHOST
2:08

Did you have a favourite, Noddy, or
Ken McAullayGUEST
3:09
how did this sit with you? Yeah, well, I loved them both, obviously.
Ken McAullayGUEST
3:13
everyone does because it was summer and winter but I was getting to a stage before I finished when I got injured I was getting a stage where I was going to have to make a decision and I was going to concentrate on cricket because I'd achieved everything possible I could even beyond my expectations for football but in cricket the big difference is that you're in control of your own destiny and I was knocking on the door for test selection, and really I knew that I needed to focus purely on cricket because East Perth were always in the finals, so it meant you started off behind everyone else in the cricket season, and Basney Bayswater were also in the finals a lot of the seasons I played.
Ken McAullayGUEST
4:01
So cricket, great game, and also the longevity aspect is more in cricket than football.
Peter VlahosHOST
10:25

Max GawnGUEST
4:34
They were the fourth best team in the WAFL that year, and they said, "We wanna come in." They're the Royals East Perth Football Club.
Max GawnGUEST

Uh, and the VFL sorta said, "Well, I don't think we're really ready to be a national-
Regan SpearHOST
44:32
I see North Melbourne's interested with him.
Regan SpearHOST
44:34
He's done a few interviews here and there, uh, as well, so hopefully he can, uh, get a good run at it after a, a massive year for, uh, East Perth, uh, in the WAFL.
Regan SpearHOST
44:44

And today we've got Jake Suter, East Perth.
Seb ClarkHOST
0:29
I don't want to say great, but he's just one of best and fairest, so he might be on the way if he continues on the trajectory that he's planning to over the next month or so.
Seb ClarkHOST
0:37
Jake, firstly, hello to you.
Jacob SoutarGUEST

But, yeah, it's a massive relief for me.
Jacob SoutarGUEST

So, yeah, really keen to see what happens.
Seb ClarkHOST
1:11
As I said, best and fairest for this year for East Perth as a 20-year-old.
Seb ClarkHOST

Nick RiewoldtHOST
25:02
Mm.
Titus O’ReilyHOST
25:02
They were the fourth-best team in the WAFL that year, and they said, "We wanna come in." They're the Royals East Perth Football Club.

And Sid, Sid, um, as, as, uh, we've, we've named it the Sid Jackson Cup since, so we wanna rotate it a bit.
Les WallamGUEST
9:02
Um, but also Sid, as you know, went on to play for East Perth and he was equal, um, highest vote in the Sandover medal too, be- um, he, he unfortunately couldn't win it that year, but, um, because of a little incident that he really shouldn't have copped heat for.
Sean GormanHOST
9:19
Mm-hmm.
Les WallamGUEST
9:20
Um, but, uh, and Sid of course went on to be an absolute champion with Carlton Football Club.
Les WallamGUEST
9:33
He, he's a big supporter of young people in the community, right across from the Eastern Board to WA and so on.
Les WallamGUEST
9:39
But Sid's acknowledged in the Hall of Fame in the South West Sporting Association in, based in Bunbury.
Les WallamGUEST
9:47
Um, he's, he's a Hall of Famer in the South Bunbury Football Club Hall of Fame with, um, the East Perth and also Western Stone Football League.
Les WallamGUEST
10:01
So he's, he's really well acknowledged.
