East Dulwich

A bit of extra reading.

Geoff and I are in a shared exhibition down in East Dulwich at 20 North Cross Road.

We both have a few bits and bobs.

Oh, lovely.

I was embarrassed, mortified even, and felt quite humiliated and powerless, said Matt Arnold, 46 years.

The comedy promoter was buying supplies in a store in East Dulwich in the southeast of London for a stand-up event at Dulwich Hamlet Football Club when, after scanning his items and a nectar card, he was approached by two managers who told him he could not be served owing to an earlier incident.

He was then asked to leave, and they tried to escort him from the store.

They simply told me they would be walking me out.

Totally understand why that's necessary.

But what's happened in this particular store is that there was this guy called Matt Arnold who was going into a Sainsbury's store in East Dulwich in London, uh, and he was literally just going to go and buy supplies for a comedy gig that was happening next door.

All of a sudden, he looked up and saw his face was being circled by a red circle on this CCTV screen, and two security guards came over and basically said, "You need to leave the store." And he was like, "What is going on?" And they said that AI technology had identified him as a potential shoplifter based on previous behaviors.

[chuckles] To which point he was like, "What are you talking about? Can I...

Anyway...

Matt Arnold, 46, was buying items at the East Dulwich store when he was stopped by management at the self-service till.

And they said, you have to leave because the AI has flagged you as a shoplifter.

And he's like, I've never been in here before.
