You know, I had the opportunity late last year to meet Dwid after being a fan of his for more of my life than I haven't been.
Nick MartiniHOST
20:29
Was that at the Judge Earth Crisis show?
Jake CollinsGUEST
20:31
It was.
Jake CollinsGUEST
20:32
Same here.
Chris WoodGUEST
57:15
okay
Larry GargisHOST
57:15
play once with integrity once was six feet deep another time with integrity and then the only shows we got in cleveland after that were speaking tongues gigs except for the one you guys asked on holy three to play with earth crisis at the euclid tavern
Chris WoodGUEST
57:30
Oh, yeah, that's right.
Larry GargisHOST
57:31
It was either you or Matt called us and said, hey, would you play the show? And I said, are you sure you want us to play the Earth Crisis?
Chris WoodGUEST
57:37
Because we were doing 18 songs.
Chris WoodGUEST
57:40
We're playing with Earth Crisis.
Larry GargisHOST
57:41
Well, I mean, you guys are a far better band than Earth Crisis.
Larry GargisHOST
57:45
I don't mind slandering Earth Crisis.
speaker_7AUDIENCE
80:08
She came out without her shoes.
speaker_7AUDIENCE
80:11
Earth Crisis was sick.
speaker_7AUDIENCE
80:13
Ringworm was sick, too.
speaker_7AUDIENCE
80:14
Oh, shit.
speaker_0HOST
3:53
No mercy, no exceptions, a declaration of total war, the innocent's defense, the reason it's waged for.
Necrotic NickGUEST
4:02
that would be earth crisis firestorm.
Necrotic NickGUEST
4:04
Exactly.
Necrotic NickGUEST
4:05
Great EP.
Necrotic NickGUEST
4:10
Right.
Necrotic NickGUEST
4:11
Right.
Necrotic NickGUEST
4:12
And, and, and earth crisis in particular is going to get brought up a lot for me, but, um, there was the whole, like they got behind their movements.
Necrotic NickGUEST
4:20
Like again, there was like this youthful defiance.
Matt MomentHOST
67:27
you're on the Wikipedia?
MikeyHOST
67:29
Earth Crisis doing Earth AD is not bad either.
MikeyHOST
67:31
That's pretty funny.
Sam KoobyGUEST
67:31
There's stuff I forgot about.
Matt MomentHOST
67:50
It's a common experience of people our age that we miss some really good because that's where that dead guy cover is.
Sam KoobyGUEST
67:57
but I think
Matt MomentHOST
67:58
we all rushed out to buy, to like hear, you know, Pennywise do a, uh, Misfits cover in middle school, or we were trying to hear the gold finger, you know, ghouls night out, or maybe like earth crisis, earth ID, but, uh, like sick of it all is on that.
Matt MomentHOST
68:16
The
Phil LabonteGUEST
67:04
Left-leaning hardcore bands go way back.
Phil LabonteGUEST
67:08
Back in the 90s when I was getting into metal bands and stuff like that, you would go to a show and it would be like Earth Crisis who were straight edge vegan environmentalists and Snapcase who were also straight edge.
Phil LabonteGUEST
67:23
And there'd be like Food Not Bombs.
Phil LabonteGUEST
67:26
They'd set up their stuff.
Phil LabonteGUEST
69:22
So that's one of the things that people don't realize that happened with metalcore in the Northeast.
Phil LabonteGUEST
69:28
So metalcore is like a mix of hardcore and metal.
Phil LabonteGUEST
69:31
When you listen to Earth Crisis, their music sounds like a metal band.
Phil LabonteGUEST
69:36
It's not super notey riffy, but it sounds like a metal band.
DerekHOST
28:36
But they were super good.
DerekHOST
28:40
And Earth Crisis, holy shit.
DerekHOST
28:42
They were awesome.
DerekHOST
28:44
I have, like, one of the best set lists I've seen them play in a long time.

7 MINS LATER

MarkHOST
35:24
knocked it out
ChrisHOST
35:26
yeah
MarkHOST
35:27
yeah i wouldn't have mind seeing seeing earth crisis
ChrisHOST
35:31
though i see
Steven HillHOST
47:10
yeah absolutely i mean like i say i've never listened to this before and this is completely blowing me away this is it is like so great i think it's so great they definitely did not get four times
John HenryGUEST
47:25
they did they definitely didn't get the attention that they deserved i think i mean in my mind they should have been at the very top of the you know, Earth Crisis, Integrity, all those, which I also, I love all those metallic hardcore bands, but to me, they were always the top.
Steven HillHOST
47:44
Yeah I mean 95 I was not listening to hardcore and I didn't know anything about hardcore it's kind of a couple of years later before you know seeing sick of it all for the first time just happening to see them at a festival and I was like oh shit and then that's the next few years I was like I'm gonna try and get everything and you know it was hard to you know I was from a little village in Hampshire um in the UK and getting any kind of punk and hardcore um from any time was pretty difficult for me going into like our local record stores it didn't really have much of many options you had to go into London and just sort of forage for what you could get and so I just never heard this band I think I would have seen them getting mentioned and thanks on various CDs and bits and bobs but I had never heard this and I cannot believe that what 31 years after it came out i'm hearing it now for the first time and it just sounds unbelievable to my ears like this album is fucking incredible i mean how bold in 1995 of a hardcore band to like open with a seven minute long yeah on your album like the fucking ball that sounds bold to me yeah
John HenryGUEST
48:52
yeah
John HenryGUEST
49:27
And I don't, because I don't, you know, when I'm talking to someone, I know they're not going to know Damnation AD or they might not know the other bands on the list either.
John HenryGUEST
49:38
But I put this one on because this record just had... such a crazy impact on my life and like i said it's it's it's why we started the band like we just wanted to be them when we were kids like to us they were they were our you know we were too young to really experience the um the minor threat bad brains era of dc hardcore so for us battery and damnation ad they were our minor threat and bad brains you know
Steven HillHOST
50:13
yeah i mean you know this is like crushing in that kind of i guess pre like saying integrity earth crisis pre-hate breed um kind of hardcore and then you've got stuff in it like funeral march in the middle which is just like this atmospheric bluesy guitar solo thing for like nine and a half minutes nine and a half minutes
John HenryGUEST
50:37
just ballsy ballsy move after ballsy move from them yeah
Dylan AdamsHOST
26:51
And they've been going hard since then.
Dylan AdamsHOST
26:53
They started out as more of a hardcore-centric band, being fans of bands like Earth Crisis and Disembodied and all of that.
Dylan AdamsHOST
27:02
But they really got into a band called Damnation A.D., and that's when they decided to form a band that was really aggressive.
Dylan AdamsHOST
27:08
And then they got into At the Gates and the melodic death metal scene.
