I think because of the fact that the story that came to him from Gordon McDonald, who had talked to his wife about this novel that he thought of about bringing this uncle into town to cause chaos.

Cause it was based on a real life person named Earl Nelson, who was known as the gorilla man and the dark strangler in the 1920s.

So this was a story that he thought would make a novel.

And his wife was like, why don't you make it into a movie instead? It might make a better movie.
