And then I started to apply for all sorts of different shows.

And the big show that I got on to was a show called This Is Your Life which I know has been quite big in Australia but it started out in America as a radio show it then became a TV show in America and then it came to the UK and it started in the UK originally in about 1950 something with a presenter called Eamon Andrews and I applied for this show and got called in for an interview and got rejected and But I'd kind of left the newspapers to make myself available for shift work in television, in newsrooms and such like.

And I'd been having quite a barren period.

It had dried up a little bit and I had nothing to lose.

Friday the 13th On Friday 13th of March 1970, the Highgate vampire story reached its most extraordinary moment.

At 6 o'clock that evening, Thames Television broadcast a report on the cemetery mystery as part of its regional programme Today, introduced by Eamon Andrews.

Reporter Sandra Harris had investigated the claims emerging from Highgate and interviewed David Farrant and Sean Manchester, the two young investigators at the heart of the story.

The programme brought the story to an audience far beyond the readers of the local newspaper.

I think that if you actually look back, it's quite an interesting interview with more people with Gay Byrne in the late 70s, right? And he had done 500 Late Late Shows.

And as a surprise for him, they brought Eamon Andrews on, who was an idol as far as, you know, an icon as far as Gay Byrne was concerned, somebody he really looked up to.

And Eamon Andrews interviewed Gay Byrne, right, on his own show as a surprise.

And Gay is quite interesting.

He talks about, we were getting criticized all the time because we weren't doing serious stuff.

And again, I was blessed because Eamon Andrews' brother, Noel Andrews, was one of the directors maybe, or he certainly had a managerial role.

And he was just such a gentleman and such a lovely, kind man who really Helped me and, you know, gave me loads of opportunities.

And then...

But they decided very clearly that while the GA was very important, they made sure they covered rugby, they covered racing, they covered motor racing, they covered boxing.

And Eamon Andrews, who left Ireland at a young age and had a great career in broadcasting over the water, his first broadcast was after he had won his own bout in a junior boxing competition in the stadium on South Turkey Road.

And he turned up at the mic with his boxing gloves hanging

out.
