Discussions often focus on the themes of the music, but for my discussion I want to talk about how physical reality came to be.

The physical reality of Ëa came into existence through two stages of realization, and these established the rigid boundaries within which the Valar operate.

In the first stage, the great music occurred as a conceptual concert of voices and instruments.

It was during this stage that Eru propounded themes to the Ainur and permitted them to show forth their own individuality, their own imagination and devices, adding to the design.

In the second stage, Eru transformed the musical theme into a visible drama or story presented directly to the Ainur.

This vision allowed the Ainur to perceive the grand design as an external reality that would be bound by both time and space, something more than internal thought.

This conceptual vision became concrete reality when Eru pronounced the command, “Ëa, let these things be,” and sent the secret fire to burn in the heart of the world.

Reality was constructed, real time and space, and the world was a physical entity tied to a finite universe.
