Durum wheat

July really hurt us, but we had a pretty good running start in June and kind of broke us out to average.

We raised a lot of Durham.

That Durham price is one where we haven't seen a big rebound, and we'd like to see that start to move up.

Obviously, hearing from a lot of folks around the state where, you know, they haven't been so fortunate.

Yields well below average, and in some cases, catastrophic losses.

Maybe we'll whittle this down over time.

Durham was reported at 1.1 million tonnes.

Now, what's interesting about Durham wheat is that...

So 1.1, keep that number in mind.

That's total farm and commercial.

Here's the commercial number, 836.

So that means that there is a very small amount of Durham left in farm bins, according to Statistics Canada.

So you may want to criticize that number as well.

Why did you make my beer more expensive? For what? For what? My airplane ticket is going up in cost because the airplanes cost more to build because you made aluminum more expensive.

Why? When I go to the store to buy spaghetti, it costs more because the Durham wheat nut spaghetti probably comes from Canada.

And that's more expensive.

Why are you doing this to me? For what? And so one of the reasons that Trump goes into nonsense, like the Lake America business at least is free.

The port of Churchill in Manitoba is shipping grain once again for the first time since 2020.

Around 30,000 tons of Canadian Durham wheat will be on its way to Europe this week.

This vessel is the first of three that are expected at Churchill this season.

It's being hailed as a return to commercial shipping through Churchill, Canada's only deepwater Arctic seaport.

We were thankful for crops like lentils and chickpeas, you know, 30 years ago, back when those crops kind of started being grown.

And I've grown a lot of Durham in the past.

Now we're starting to grow a lot more canola.

I've got some flax and barley, kind of the typicals.

We still have a hoe drill, which has been really challenging trying to find ground for that, so obviously we've got to manage our straw accordingly.

We would love to get more in a system where We don't have to be too concerned about it.

But even this year, for example, because we had the early rains, some of our Durham is really tall.

And I think if we stripped it, there would be actually too much straw to manage.

By contrast, they only planted 339,000 acres of rye, and whiskey is still an important market for that crop.

Cash prices for Western Canadian wheat improved during the week-ended Tuesday, while those for Durham dipped lower.

Gains in the United States wheat complex lent support to prairie prices, while a stronger Canadian dollar attempted to limit the upside.

The increases in U.S. wheat were largely due to Ukraine and Russia attacking each other's grain ports, which severely limited wheat exports out of the Black Sea.

In general, we've been pleasantly surprised too.

I think USDA's latest yield estimate is 39 bushel per acre on Durham.

They did cut that from 44 earlier.

On spring wheat, they're still at 55 bushel an acre, which is down from 58.

And then with the rains we got out west, which certainly were needed for everything, it's just tough timing during wheat harvest.

Growers were noticing a little bit of drop in test weight after the rains as well as color.

And on Durham, that can hit pretty hard.

You know, like I said, we were dry so long.
