Durham Red

I enjoyed this.

[laughs] Next comic is Durham Red: Hungry City Part Three, script by Alex Worley, art by Ben Woolshare, letters by Simon Bowland, and in the, uh, credit card at the bottom of the page tells you that's the, all of the little dots, uh, that, that show you like the different creators.

They've got an SD on them for Strontium Dog, which that was a, an interesting little touch.

Yes, because this takes place in the Strontium Dog universe.

Strontium Dog universe.

That's where Durham Red is from.

Durham Red is a mutant bounty hunter who-

Mm

And I'm Greg

And this is 2000 AD prog number 2,501, Traces of Red.

The mutant vampire follows the blood trails in a hungry city.

Michael, what is 2000 AD?

Well, that's going to be readily apparent to everybody anyway.

Readily apparent because this is the red one.

Yes, it's a Durham Red c- cover, and thus the color palette used by [page rustling] Lee Carter [page rustling] is largely red.

Largely red, and it's, also says Traces of Red.

We'll be talking about Hernan Shuck soon enough.

There is the return of Durham Red, who is a mutant and a vampire.

A sexy woman.

Yes.

don't think he's dead at all.

I think he's the most alive person I've ever seen from Fife.

Okay, next comic is Durham Red.

Does it have another title? Hungry City, part one.

It's everything that you would expect from Silent Hill.

Durham Red shows up.

Durham Red is a, you probably know this, maybe though, is a rogue trooper, and is also a vampire.

And it's another one of those germ red where she wakes up and doesn't know whether she killed the right people.

She's drunk on blood.

If you're listening, thug.

But we've also got the return of Durham Red by Alec Worley.

And Ben Wilshere.

Which feels a lot like kind of Lenny Zero era Andy Diggle.

film influence kind of action-y kind of thing.

I can see it.

Also, can we talk about how Durham Red has gone from her Susie and the Banshees era to her Republican era? Yeah.

We're growing, we're evolving, we're changing aesthetics.

She's not Jubilee.

I am deeply nostalgic for Durham Red because the first prog I got back the Christmas after COVID, the January after COVID started, when I started reading the prog, which led to Prog Slog, had the first part of that Durham Red run in it.

Yeah.

So that creative team, that art style, I look at it and I'm like, oh, nostalgia for five to six years ago.
