Durga Puja

She's out there celebrating,

I think, Durga Puja.

Yeah, so it's a continuation of the Durga Puja stuff going on at the...

No, no, she's not going there.

She went somewhere else.

Her most well-known appearance in the third episode of the Durga Saptashrithi we recently had.

Durga Puja and many of you did the recitation of the Chandi of the Durga.

So we know that there are three stories in that.

And in the third story, we see Durga defeating these two demons, Shumbha and Nishumbha.

that it has resonated across thousands of years of telling and retelling.

Durga is celebrated each autumn during Navratri, nine nights of music, dancing and prayer that fill the streets of India with color and sound, and culminates in Durga Puja, a festival particularly beloved in the eastern state of West Bengal, where enormous and breathtakingly beautiful statues of the goddess are crafted by artisans across months, worshipped for days, and then immersed in the river, returned to the water from which everything comes and to which everything returns.

And then, deeper still, past Durga's fierce grace, we reach the form that unsettles and fascinates in equal measure.

Kali.

And we go and worship them.

You go to Calcutta for Durga Puja, man, every man, every old man, every little boy is worshipping.

So I think in real life as well, when women are held, I don't mean just physically, but emotionally and mentally.

the woman feels complete, she's powerful in the kindest way.

Her presentation highlights the diversity of Indian culture on an international pageant stage, bringing Kerala's representation into the spotlight as the country prepares to shine at Miss Universe.
