Dunkirk

Ferries, tugboats, dinner cruises, fishing charters, sightseeing boats, fireboats.

Reminds me of Dunkirk when they saved the Brits and some Frenchmen and some Belgians who had been pinned in by the Germans, and England sent whatever seaworthy boat they could get to go get them and get them off of there.

Saved the war.

Some of them got a Coast Guard call.

I'll say that again.

It is the largest waterborne evacuation in the history of this country.

Best comparison I can give is Dunkirk nineteen forty.

The Brits pulled three hundred and thirty-eight thousand men off that beach, and the world has been making movies about it ever since, and that took them nine days.

You know, that, um, while England slept, he alone understood this rising threat from Nazi Germany, and he, in a very lonely way, tried to rouse his fellow countrymen to understand that threat.

Uh, it was only after, you know, the threat emerged with Dunkirk and the invasion of France that his fellow Brits understood really that they were in a You know, a very dangerous position, uh, and he was vindicated in the end because, you know, the United States came to help, and they eventually won the war.

And, you know, that narrative is, is very stirring and inspirational.

Uh, a lot of people during the Cold War felt that we were in a very similar kind of situation, uh, and it led to, you know, a kind of moral...

Him and his cousin can't leave France.

And through his path, I learned what happened after Dunkirk.

Nobody talks about that, at least in America.

Yeah,

nobody talks about it in America.

But

Dunkirk, obviously, they only evacuated a small portion of the forces that were there between British, French, Polish.

Yeah.
