and you you do forget about um they had dennis savard who was a pretty good player for him too another guy who was a a thousand point scorer 1096 and a thousand and five penalty minutes so obviously they were tougher back in those days because some of these star players were penalty minute guys too um And I know you picked Duncan Keith, but you forget Doug Wilson was a great defenseman back in

the 70s.

He's been around hockey a long time, coach or general manager of some very good ones.

If you weren't aware, during his time with Chicago, uh, some future Hall of Famers in the form of Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, a few other good complementary players, depending on your take, whether or not they maybe belong in the Hall of Fame, Jonathan Toews, uh, Marian Hossa's already there, Brent Seabrook on the back.

Right? He, he's had a lot of excellent individuals under teams that he has been in control of.

So some comments to say that the desire to win is something unlike he's seen, take it for what it is worth.

He never wore the C, but, but you also had Duncan Keith that if, listen, if Duncan Keith is standing up and yelling at you, you're probably gonna listen.

You're gonna listen, yeah.

Go out there, figure out what's gonna get you in this lineup and keep you in this lineup, and then excel at that and go from there.

I hate to continue to kinda reach back and use the reference of Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook, but Korchinski's just turned 22 this summer.

Yeah, still super young.

He's had three professional seasons already.

Yeah.

And so like, I was sitting there at the media meal, each of those games that I went to and, and, uh, most of the media meal was just these scouts and, you know, there's, there's a guy from the penguins and a guy from the blues and a guy from the flames and they're all sitting in the eating dinner together and, you know, sharing what they know and everything and it was just kind of a really cool experience just to kind of rub shoulders with guys like that and got to talk to a few guys that I knew and the other thing that I found kind of cool was just that we were the press row was kind of this scaffolding that they built in the one end of the arena and they had the TSN desk there TSN is one of the major broadcasters in Canada and so the TSN desk was just kind of a few seats over to my right and so they'd be pulling up all these legends to do these broadcast interviews with them during the game or during intermissions and I'm, you know, sitting there like, hey, that's Duncan Keith sitting five seats away from me.

You know, it's, like, why the Ducks aren't doing this.

I mean, my God, who's their defenseman o- over there? Like, uh, you know, I think Doug Wilson is on that team, and, uh, Duncan Keith and Phil Russell.

Like, that team is not good on defense.

But it looks like Nashville, uh, is apparently interested in taking the leap, and good that they do.

Um, but I'm comparing two of the best defensemen that, uh, played the game.

You kind of mentioned his skating like almost like Duncan Keith, like a little choppier like that?

Even more so than Duncan when I say that 'cause he's, he's a bigger guy.

I mean, these, these skates, when they come and hit the ice, I, I see what you're saying about Duncan, so that, that kind of is like Duncan's, but Duncan's are probably smoother.

But he, uh, you know, these guys could fight through it.

I mean, I, I can't even think of a guy that wouldn't, uh, be doing anything he could to, uh, to help the group, and that was probably, be sticking together was probably the greatest asset.

I played against, uh, Duncan Keith the lockout year when the whole season was canceled.

He was in Norfolk, and he was really good.

So the Oilers lost the number of players that summer.

They lost Mike Smith, Mikko Koskinen, Zach Kassian, Derek Broussard, Duncan Keith, Chris Russell, finally retired.

Tyson Berry was moved later in the year at the trade deadline.

They lost Reed Schaefer, their first round draft pick at that time.

Well, he didn't know two things at that point.

He didn't know what Mike Smith was doing, who had a year left on his contract, I think at $2 million.

And he didn't know what Duncan Keith was going to do, who had a year left on his contract.
