I'm still a little dumb in the head, but it kind of slows you down a little bit.

That means don't expect your medical doctor to change his or her prescribing habits anytime soon.

You're still going to see Zoloft and Paxil and Lexapro and Cymbalta and Benzos commonly prescribed for anxiety without ever trying to find and fix the underlying mechanism.

The second problem is that medical research is actually still stuck in the neurotransmitter model.

That's not entirely true because if you look in the right places, you do find research that shows how both hormonal and immune systems are involved as well.

And every time we run the system, we make energy, but we also make GABA as a byproduct of that.

And this happens in the brain as well as in the body.

So from a neurotransmitter standpoint, if GABA is the most important neurotransmitter that we have that can help control anxiety, And if GABA is made as a byproduct of energy metabolism, why is the very first thing that your doctor thinks about is whether to give you Xanax or Paxil or Cymbalta? Why isn't your doctor working with you to understand what's happening with your adrenal system, your blood sugar control, your hormones, your frontal lobe? and doing things to optimize energy metabolism.
