And I prefer generally manual cars that if I'm going to go drive gas, I prefer manual, like stick shift.
M
66:21Myriam JoireHOST
But, and so I'm not huge on DCT, you know, paddle shifters type of thing.
M
66:26Myriam JoireHOST
But, oh my God, I had so much fun driving the IONIQ 5N.

I don't know the pricing, but like I'm making it up 130 K or whatever minimum for this thing.
M

Why not have, you know, in addition to your massaging seats, why not have a little bit of, you know, why not have a little bit of fun? And I think that's, I really hope that we can get to that point.
M
70:11Myriam JoireHOST
And related to that, you know, the Ferrari 12 cylinder, uh, whatever 12-cylindery, the crazy, super expensive GT two-door, naturally aspirated V12 in the front, DCT in the back, you know, coupe GT car they have.
M
70:27Myriam JoireHOST
They now have a manual version, but the manual, like an actual stick shift with a clutch, but it's completely simulated.

so they've had it still has the exactly the same mechanical layout it has the getrag eight speed dct at the back the difference is there's now a lever which they've completely created from nothing um which is exactly where you expect to find it on the center console and there's an extra pedal in the in the footwell which operates the clutch so this is a four-year project um Two and a half of those years were doing the software because you've got to learn what you're asking the DCT gearbox to do because it's got clutches and it's got gears, but it's not configured for a human being to do random things with it, like going from second to fourth.
J
2:59John BarkerGUEST
And the gearbox has been, I think this is one of the key things, the gearbox has has been refined so that it shifts itself in standard form so all the gears and everything inside it is configured to be controlled by you know very precisely by a control unit and then you throw in a manual selection even though it's just shift by wire you've got to work out how to tell it to shift all over again so one of the engineers said we had to learn how the gearbox works and then unlearn it to be able to then control the gears with with with a lever and a

clutch were they the ones that had the idea and took the idea to getrag or or did was it something getrag were thinking about and they pitched it to ferrari as the first
J

They haven't done one of them for a while.
J
8:08John BarkerGUEST
So, yeah, the brake pedal's smaller, so you've got the heel and toe potential, but not a great big fat pad for the brake pedal.
J
8:17John BarkerGUEST
And the clutch is connected to the clutches in the DCT.
J
8:22John BarkerGUEST
Now DCT is dual clutch, so you've got control of those, they're sort of wet clutches.

I don't love it without the clutch pedal.
M
63:28Matt FarahHOST
I think it's cooler to do a sequential shifter and a clutch pedal with an 8 HP gearbox and be able to clutch kick it and have a more rally style shifter than it is to have an 8 gates but no clutch pedal with an 8 speed DCT.

M

I don't necessarily know if these were projects you guys were working on or just following with some of the builders, but two that you mentioned, there was a 53 F 100 truck and a V 12 Pantera with a DCT transaxle.
