Drive theory

I'm teaching psychoanalysis really aggressively.

And the psychology department is just coming across the quad and saying, "Why are, why are my students reading Freud when I have worked so hard to keep Freud out of this curriculum?" [laughs] And you know, the dismissal in our psychology department in the American Academy, sometimes in the minds of people who show up in our first-year classes thinking like, "Why must I read Freud?" You know, you can take a class at our center that's called Freud's Drive Theory, and someone will raise their hand and say, "Why do we have to read theory, and why do we have to talk about Freud?" But the idea that Freud was, as Dave said, a, a somewhat well-to-do, which is really how he better would've described me, old white man, you know, that's, that's part of this.

That's part of the marginalization of psychoanalysis.

That here is someone who maybe was a pretty virulent misogynist, you know, maybe was not super, uh, you know, friendly to people on the marginal.
