Now, that was his first number one in the U.S. now crying followed coupled with candy man and by the end of 1961 he'd had six hits in a row his backing group on dream baby was a group called the webs they changed their name to the candy men and became his backing group until 1967 in the interim here they actually met a fellow by the name of bob dylan in may 1962 at dylan's 21st so they became good friends you've got to remember the British invasions were starting to occur at this stage but from 1959 to 63 he was the top selling American artist and he was asked to replace Dwayne Eddy on a tour of the UK and the top billing was with the Beatles and that sold out in one afternoon but the story goes that on arrival he realised he was not the main act and he asked what's a Beatle and he was tapped on the shoulder by John Lennon who said I am.
