I'm Ricky, and this is Pocket Dramaturg Episode 8, How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? For a musical theater loving child of the early 60s, there was no one that Webber could look up to more than Rodgers and Hammerstein.

The duo had revolutionized their unique approach to storytelling with music, dance, and the book all coming together to tell a cohesive vision and led to the duo becoming the names with pieces like Oklahoma and Carousel, South Pacific, and The King and I.

Each one of these shows set Broadway on fire, and eventually the West End too, as the British Theatre was filled to the brim with transfers from Broadway following World War II.

The ideas for it are already churning, and I've got a lot of really interesting things to try out.

This episode is particularly special since...

The idea for this one was the very first episode I thought of when I decided to do Pocket Dramaturg over three years ago.

It's crazy to think about how much has been accomplished in that time and really how far this whole thing has already gone, even at this stage.
