I think this is a fascinating season, even if it's pretty polarizing.

Absolutely.

But let's move on.

Another design challenge.

These were I mean, these were all factual questions, and we can obviously get into the weeds on this because it's interesting.

But the way the law is written, keep in mind that the triggering incident in all of this is not burlesque or you know really bawdy uh you know harvey firestein drag stuff it is drag queen story hour where a woman a performer dressed as a woman in like the really exaggerated costumes of drag and the exaggerated persona of drag reads stories to kids really in a way just to promote the idea of kind of acceptance of gender fluidity.

Like I can't even, like what is the point of Drag Queen Story Hour, right? I think people who say it's not ideological are not seeing the forest for the trees.

I think it's ideological, but good.

Right? Like the idea of drag queen story hour is to make kids who are, you know, not firmly slotted in the gender spectrum in their own minds feel comfortable in their own skin.

And so, yeah.

for the specifics of how, because it gets into what the fifth circuit said, right? Originally there were like five or six plaintiffs and the fifth circuit did this like careful job of trying to blow outstanding on all of them.

You know, like one, Drag performance is like, we do it at this place and this time, and we don't touch anyone, and this is how we dress.

It did.

And so Christine, you know, famous monstrous drag queen, also known as Paul Swallow, uh, is the understudy/cover for Frank-N-Furter.

it's just such a fabulous reminder that like the communities that we build and the spaces that we create they should be reflections of the lives that we live outside of those spaces because i think it brings us together and allows us to make progress and create all of this wonderful art that we're exploring within this season of ifqt but also just in the world as queer people and similar to that our next segment is exploring the perspectives of three other wonderful performers and artists And I had the privilege of sitting down with the Lexapro, a drag performer based in Los Angeles, Paradox, an artist based in Mexico City, and Sarah Calise, a queer historian and archivist here in Nashville, where I go to school.

And with this segment, I really wanted to bring the perspectives of each of these interviewees together in a sort of mosaic so that we could hear how their thoughts and perspectives overlapped, intersected, but also diverged.

And so I call this segment the Drag Tapestry, and I hope you enjoy.

Honestly, when I think about the conservative politicians who are trying to control people's gender and sexuality honestly i get really sad about it more than i do like angry because i'm sad for them that they lack the imagination and creativity within themselves to think about their own gender and sexuality and really break free of the boxes that society has put us in it's so freeing once you realize that, oh, that's just a thing that people made up.

I don't have to listen to that.

And don't think too hard about like what other people think of me in terms of my gender, my sexuality.

And if people have a problem with it, like who cares?

Drag has always kind of like been like an outlet for me to like show what I feel like on the inside, on the outside, showing off like a lot of different forms of art and just being camp and like putting on a persona that I can't do without.
