Chamberlain.

Nothing passed, but the Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Doug Vincent-Lang, has proposed a formal 10-year moratorium on increasing egg takes for pink and chum salmon at hatcheries across the state.

This wouldn't shut down hatcheries, but it would keep them from starting in new pink and chum hatcheries or increasing the amount of eggs they take to raise in their existing facilities.

The deadline to finalize a moratorium is at the end of the month, but hatchery operators are split on whether to sign on.

More than 20 species that are listed as threatened or endangered spend at least some of their lives in Alaska.

He says he agrees with the Trump administration's new understanding of the Endangered Species Act.

We are part of not only this definition of how to look at taking harm, but also rolling back those critical habitat designations.
