It really was between Atlanta, going back to Athens, Greece, which they eventually did in 2004, and Toronto, and Atlanta got their shot.

There's Donovan Bailey winning the 100 meters in Atlanta, Georgia, right? Athens got to do it in 04, and we've just not been on the list ever since.

How Toronto might be different.

We'd have definitely built an Olympic stadium, and I don't know where that would be, but it'd still be standing and be about 30 years old today.

But the first thing that I thought of, and yes, this is probably going to hit some of you older folks here who were around in 1997.

The first thing that I thought of was the match race between Canadian Donovan Bailey and American Michael Johnson.

Now, in 1997, you have to understand, Michael Johnson was the reigning champion of the 200 and 400, considered to be the fastest man on earth.

He was unstoppable in those events.

Then you had Donovan Bailey come in, and he was this dynamo in the 100, and he claimed to be the fastest man on earth.

So they had this match race, and they put it together.

It was a made-for-TV event.

Now, if you know anything about track as a sport, the guy that is the reigning champ in the 100 is always a faster runner.

Yeah.

Um, I think n- n- the, was it '96 Olympics with Donovan Bailey, um, is in that conversation.

All right, so let's take you back to 1997.

Donovan Bailey and Michael Johnson are racing to see who is the fastest man in the world.

Mordecai Richler just won the Giller Prize for Barney's version.

Ralph Klein just won his eighth majority government in Alberta.

The famous line from Don Whitman after the Canadian relay team won the gold medal.

A week after Donovan Bailey, who was on that team, won the gold medal.

And then I, and I just, and then sometimes I scroll and I'm like, oh, I want to, I want to hear about Ben Johnson or Donovan Bailey.

they were both great episodes, but that Ben Johnson episode off the hook.
