SalHOST
28:08
Except that Eddie remembers all this stuff.
SalHOST
28:10
He's like, even Dylan, my son that they retconned that I have, that was a major player in my entire run, especially the Donny Cates period, because Donny Cates invited him.
SalHOST
28:18
He's fine.
SalHOST
28:19
He'll be fine without me.
Mike WoodHOST
40:39
carnage.
Mike WoodHOST
40:42
Wait, when was that? It was actually part of, oh, who's the fellow? Donny Cates, is that
Justin DeclouxHOST
40:47
his name? Donny Bates.
Justin DeclouxHOST
40:48
Donny Cates.
Justin DeclouxHOST
40:48
Who has an unfortunate face.
Mike WoodHOST
40:50
Yeah, and I was following everything he was writing, self-published and otherwise, and his Marvel stuff was really cool.
Rob LiefeldHOST
62:33
I think you've written everything you've drawn.
Daniel Warren JohnsonGUEST
62:36
Um, I worked with Donny Cates, um, and I worked with Caitlin R. Kiernan on, uh, Alabaster: The Good, the Bad, the Bird.
Rob LiefeldHOST
62:43
Okay.
Daniel Warren JohnsonGUEST
62:44
And that's about, uh...
Ryan DozeHOST
27:13
I just kind of connected those dots maybe out of.
EricHOST
27:15
Well, I mean, what's a Thor comic without a family meeting? We had that in the Donny Cates run.
EricHOST
27:20
We have these the revelation arc.
EricHOST
27:22
We have a lot of family controversy.
TonyHOST
40:01
So it's like 10 years ago or something like that.
TonyHOST
40:05
I met him and Donny Cates.
TonyHOST
40:08
And... you know, me and Matt, you know, we, we just like kind of hung out with them for all, you know, it's just like after the show and just, just like talking a lot and just joking around.
TonyHOST
40:17
And, and so he's like such a cool guy and, you know, it's just, I, and the stuff that he's written, I just have a lot of respect for him.
AngelHOST
41:28
Didn't put that in there either, but this was so much.
John PepeHOST
41:31
um but uh donny cates uh and jeff shaw
AngelHOST
41:36
god country
John PepeHOST
41:37
yeah
AngelHOST
41:37
dude when i read this in its serial form it was just so good i could not wait for each issue to come out um and donny cates just he put together a really good story um and having jeff to draw the book was just really freaking yeah it it was good if you don't know what this book is about i'm not going to tell you i just it's an honorable mention you have to go out there and read it you will not be disappointed but there's big huge talking swords and these freaking titan things that come out of nowhere um yeah awesome stuff that's my honorable mention all right my number uh i did i did sort of like a new pick A newer pick, like later pick, an older pick, and then a moderate timeline pick.
AngelHOST
42:24
So my newest pick, which will be like the latest thing that's out right now, that just had me, you know, in awe.
AngelHOST
42:31
Yeah,

6 MINS LATER

AngelHOST
48:22
Definitely worth checking out.
MillerGUEST
58:08
I think his stuff is so, the depth that he brings to stories and the sort of like literary knowledge that he puts forward while maintaining a really compelling genre story often is such a trick that he's able to pull off.
MillerGUEST
58:25
know i think like um you know donny cates uh is is a is an incredible like innovative uh writer um you know i i think we've taken from all over alan moore and you know all the classic guys um and i think especially in kind of thinking of like the mythology we wanted to build those sorts of guys are people we've been looking at mike winola and stuff like that
BlaineGUEST
58:50
yeah i mean For me, I didn't really get into comics until college, I will say, or late high school.
BlaineGUEST
58:58
Before that, I would pick up this and that at an airport or at Kroger or whatever.
Greg LickteigHOST
5:36
Never showed up.
Greg LickteigHOST
5:37
There were a bunch of rumors that, like, Donny Cates was going to take over writing him.
Andy VargasHOST
5:41
Yep.
Greg LickteigHOST
5:41
That Neil Gaiman was supposed to.
Josh FlanaganHOST
10:17
Old Man Hellboy.
Josh FlanaganHOST
10:18
He did, uh, Doctor Strange with Donny Cates.
Josh FlanaganHOST
10:21
That was a while ago.
Josh FlanaganHOST
10:22
He did-
TJ PistilliHOST
32:24
One last thing I will say selfishly for this.
TJ PistilliHOST
32:27
I just, the whole ultimate universe in itself, I was personally selfishly a little disappointed that we did not get Donny Cates in for at least one story of not a title, like just one, a short story, anything.
TJ PistilliHOST
32:41
Because for people who don't know Donny Cates in his Thor run or no, the Venom run, excuse me, really is the one who set up this whole ultimate universe and the maker and all that.
TJ PistilliHOST
32:54
So I always was kind of holding out and hoping that he would be involved a little bit with something.
TJ PistilliHOST
33:01
So that's another kind of knock for me on the ultimate universe.
TJ PistilliHOST
33:06
And again, that's just personal.
TJ PistilliHOST
33:07
I'm a fan of Donny Cates, obviously been on a hiatus for a while.
TJ PistilliHOST
33:12
So, you know, maybe it's personal things, but I personally would have liked that a little bit more.
