Donny Anderson

Mm-hmm.

Fast-forward all the way to 1965, Donnie Anderson's 103-yard kickoff return and Jeff White's touchdown catch with a minute and three left helped Texas Tech beat Oklahoma State 17 to 14.

Donnie Anderson is going to be here tomorrow for, uh, homecoming, and, uh, he'll be a part of the lettermen who, uh, help, uh, bring the Red Raiders onto the field.

Nice.

That's cool.

The ball is spotted at the Green Bay Packer 18-yard line, and we'll now see our first series on offense for the Green Bay Packers.

The running backs, Donnie Anderson and Chuck Mercine.

Behind quarterback Bart Starr, Carol Dale is flanked to the right side.

Boyd Dollar split on the left side.

Ken Bowman over the ball at center.

Starr takes hands off to Donnie Anderson.

He's across the 20-yard line to the 23.

Before he's nailed, there was a fumble.

Starr starts moving them slowly.

Donnie Anderson, Chuck Mercein.

Mercein is one of the great pieces of this time.

I, I like that Starr, like, the confidence, though, where he, he starts the huddle and he says, "We're going in."

Is that a T-shirt?

Donnie Anderson.

So did they just get soaked, and that was the only thing he had?

So the deal is, that is the gear, because you know what? KJ Jackson had it at the press conference.

Yeah, James Garner, the actor, was here all the time.

Yeah, Donnie Anderson.

I mean, all these different...

My gosh.

But starting in the mid-60s, there was that bidding war, even for existing players, and then the draft.

And, in fact, the Packers— and signed basically what they thought would be their backfield of the future in the 1966 NFL draft, Donnie Anderson and Jim Grabowski.

But they had to pay those two guys infinitely more than they would have paid otherwise.

I think they paid like $600,000 for Donnie Anderson and like $300,000-something for Jim Grabowski.

And that was...

Exponentially more than existing guys, you know, future Hall of Famers were playing.

And then we probably should mention, and I don't...

It's probably...

Starr takes.

Hands off to Donnie Anderson.

He's across the 20-yard line to the 23.

Before he's nailed, there was a fumble.

He comes out of the pile with the ball, and the officials indicate that the Packers did recover.

The Cowboys were signaling that they had recovered, but it goes as a five-yard gain.

For the Green Bay Packers, Donnie Anderson lugging the mail.

And it is second down, five to go.

Yeah.

Uh, 1:00 to 3:00, Donnie Anderson, uh, Jim Grabowski, Don Horn.

I mean, my God, you got some really good names.

Jerry Kramer's gonna be there.
