Uh, the official Air Force viewpoint, uh, is that we've got enough good reports from reliable people to be interested in this.

Uh, we can't back up any of these books by Scully or Keyhoe and say that we know that they're from Venus or that we know they're from Russia or that we even know they exist.

I mean, there's a possibility that everything that's being reported is, uh, some, as a balloon or as a meteor or ducks or anything you can think of that somebody just saw them from an odd angle or, uh, under odd lighting conditions and they look like something else.

But it's, it's, uh, at the present time, uh, we have enough faith in these people who have been turning in the reports to say that we, we don't exactly believe that.

John Fuller, whose 1966 book would carry the case to the world, wrote plainly that Barney had sheepishly avoided mentioning the beings he had seen when he talked to the Air Force.

Five days later, on September 26, Betty wrote to Major Donald Kehoe, the retired Marine and director of the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena, after checking Kehoe's book, The Flying Saucer Conspiracy, out of the Portsmouth Library.

That letter did describe figures scurrying about in shiny black uniforms, and it put the encounter at about midnight.

Henderson's report also carried a radar note.

He wrote an early article in the '40s on hypnosis, and he got interested in the UFO phenomenon.

He had Keyhoe's books and stuff like that.

And then the way he tells the story is, "I went to Washington," 'cause he was, he was negotiating FM radius frequencies.

And one of the people that worked for him was a metallurgist, uh, by the name of Art Bridge, who lived really near me in, in Canada.

And, um, th- then there's another document in Wilbur's files, not in the official files, but in Wilbur's personal files, uh, that says, uh, "We've sent..." Wilbur had this idea about how propulsion worked.

He believed it was electromagnetic fields, that they were using the electromagnetic field of the Earth for propulsion and stuff like that.

And so he had put that through, and he's, i- in this, uh, document, uh, he says, "It has been sent to..." Keyhoe took the document on the propulsion to Vannevar Bush, and we're waiting for his opinion.

It'll be interesting what he says.

What happened was the Air Force claimed that there were only three witnesses, uh, to this event.

Don Keyhoe, who was the, uh, director for NICAP, which was a civilian organization, said there were nine witnesses, and the Air Force and NICAP were arguing about the number of witnesses rather than investigating the case.

And when I went back and looked at the Project Blue Book files and, and the files from, from CUFOS, uh, the Center for UFO Studies and some other organizations, I found witnesses at 13 separate locations who had seen the craft on the ground and talked about it stalling their car engines and that sort of thing.

Here's an event where the craft is interacting with the environment.

Kevin, uh, if this, if the UFO phenomenon, what- whatever it is or isn't, uh, is true, how, how is it the US, and we are the main people that do this, uh, have been able to keep the lid on it for so long now?

Well, interesting you brought that 'cause in the, in the UFO dossier, I was looking at the Australian investigation of UFOs and the guy that wrote the original report in Australia had quoted some stuff from Don Keyhoe about, you know, his opinions on UFO and UFOs and the government conspiracy to hide the information.

The Australian Air Force got the report, and they n- they called and asked the US Air Force, "What's going on with this Keyhoe guy?" And the Air Force mocked Keyhoe and said, "Well, he's a liar.

But she was like, we're going to get to the bottom of this.

So several days after her encounter, Betty went to the library to check out a book called The Flying Saucer Conspiracy, written by a retired Marine Corps major, Donald Kehoe, widely regarded as a UFO expert of the time.

He wrote of aliens, conspiracies, and the threat of interplanetary war.

Just a little light reading.

He also featured my old friend Jim Mosley, our mutual friend, Geneva and I, Jim Mosley, Gray Barker, Richard Shaver, Major Donald Kehoe, all the well-known figures of the UFO field.

When John left, probably the only person to come close to what he did was Art Bell.

Right.

And Dr. Allen Hynek was right as the consummate insider, and in, in his student, Jacques Vallee, had access to a lot of the records.

Major Donald Keyhoe, who traveled with Charles Lindbergh and, and wrote a book about Lindbergh, was a Marine graduate from the Naval Academy.

Admiral Herbert Knowles up in Elliot was very involved with the Hills, the automatic writing, Mrs. Swann, and NICAP.

Dr. Hillenkota, Roscoe Hillenkoetter, was the first director, an admiral of the CIA, was on the NICAP board originally for some time as well.

Many Americans believed in UFOs after a pilot named Kenneth Arnold reported seeing strange objects in the sky back in 1947.

A retired Navy pilot named Donald Kehoe also wrote a popular book in 1950 called The Flying Saucers Are Real.

Partway through the walk, one of the physicists brought up a cartoon from the New Yorker magazine.

The cartoon joked that aliens and flying saucers were stealing public trash cans from the streets in New York City.
