(Don't Fear) The Reaper

Well, I also, I mean, here's an obvious one from the 70s, Blue Oyster Cult, which that was, I mean, they have Don't Fear the Reaper, but all their stuff had like, I mean, they started off as kind of a parody band, and then it just became a thing, and they just got great at what they did.

Really? I didn't know they

were a parody.

Okay.

And, I mean, they're just super legit.

I mean, Agents of Fortune, the one that's got Don't Fear the Reaper on it, great album.

And then Tyranny and Mutation.

As my cousin was holding her dad's hand and watching him take his final breaths, my dad's phone started to ring.

His ringtone? Blue Oyster Cults, Don't Fear the Reaper.

Oh my God, that is pure, awful gold.

Hence the term we coined, awfulsome.

And there were a lot of songs on this list that, like, I didn't realize that were popular Blue Oyster Cult songs.

And you kind of get to hear them, and you're like, okay, this is a depth of this band that I didn't realize that they had just by listening to Don't Fear the Reaper and Godzilla and Cities in Flame with rock and

roll,

you know? I don't know if Godzilla's in there for you.

This is a way more fun discovery than I thought it was going to be.

i you know when when we come into the i'm glad because you know because of the line that we've been on i was worried that oh man is it going to be like 70 don't fear the reapers not that that's not a great song you know we'll get to that but like i get it i don't want to hear 70 versions of don't fear the reaper please like i you know there's only so many times i can make the cowbell joke um but no like you push play and you're immediately going oh okay this is what's going on and you're immediately going okay and it it sets you back and you know you just before i knew it i was like two records in i was like oh okay cool like maybe i'll pay a little bit more attention this time that said this is a big discography so Chris you really had to pour over what we were going to bring to the table it took you a little while to come up with a finalized list so walk me through your process of what you decided needed to be here for us to cover and then talk to me about how you put your 20 together out of that

if I'm not mistaken it took me like 3 weeks to make that list

And I do the same thing with the Halloween tunes.

For example, I have over a dozen versions of Don't Fear the Reaper.

around 30 versions of Ghost Riders in the Sky, and over three dozen different takes on I Put a Spell on You, though I may not get to all of them this year as I try to separate songs and artists so you don't hear the same songs and the same voices over and over.

During the sounds of Halloween, you will hear from many of your favorite Christmas music singers and bands, including Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Mannheim Steamroller, and even Bruce Springsteen.

Wasn't she on the phone with Laurie? She was on the

phone, but there was a radio because it was playing Don't Fear the Reaper.

It sort of mirrored Judith because she had the headphones in during her thing and she was listening to that.

Yeah, I just feel that that's just another example of taking something that worked in the original and just like, we're going to do this differently.
