Don Davis

This is not an ultra marathon per se, but it is an endurance event and one that I'm always praising and cursing myself for signing up for because I find it so rewarding and so terrifying at the same time.

It is this epic triathlon that was created by a man named Don Davis in the town where I live.

He used the geography of the landscape here, a ridgeline called the Schwangungs that has white conglomerate cliffs and old carriage road systems, several sky lakes.

He was training to qualify and compete the Kona Ironman in Hawaii back in the 1980s when there was only one Ironman.

No bargaining.

I would think ahead to Godzilla, which is very steep and winding hills that lead to the final lake.

I always say that Don is part God, Don Davis, who created this race.

He's part God and part Satan because he created a race that is mostly uphill.

Shea, lovely guy.

He'll probably end up boxing for Don Davis, I imagine.

But Shea's 29 now.

He came to us at 14, 15.

You know, Rick Campbell to, to Paul Appoules to Bob Dice to Ryan Dinwiddie.

And it's been multiple starters at quarterback from, you know, Don Davis to Matt Nichols to Nick Arbuckle to Drew Brown to Jeremiah Masoli to now Jake Mayer, and, and just none of it has worked.

And I mean, it's, it's wild to think that, you know, it, it, it's pre-pandemic that, that this team was consistently good.

They had one year where they were average in, in 2024, and they had a first-round playoff exit, losing that playoff game by 20 points.

But in the end, I would not trade any of it for the world, and I'm grateful we spent the time together.

Now, Don Davis and Rob Barr and Jake and the rest of my family here that makes things happen on the air, you guys are the greatest, and I wish nothing but the best for all of you.

Now, on to the problem.

There is nothing worse than managers that think that radio people are like commodities to be used up and thrown away with.

So once, there's been a split MVP once in 1979.

And Don Davis also brought up a good point.

He'd rather see Shohei win World Series MVP than another regular season MVP.

I reject the frame.

Yeah.

So I get it, but it's just not based in reality, in my opinion.

And Don Davis asked, "Is there an opt-out clause in Shohei's contract if Walter sells the team?" Yes, it's a key-man clause, so if Mark Walter were to sell the Dodgers, um, again, reports are now that he is not considering the Dodgers, but if he were to sell the Dodgers, Shohei Ohtani does have the right to opt out of his contract.

But there are also reports that Shohei is happy with the front- what the front office has did and showed their commitment to investing in other star players, um, to build a championship team around him, which is why he did that, basically all of his contract deferred.
