So even if they are on private land, there's still that practical question for billboard owners about whether their existing signage and who is on that signage relative to the Clean Zone and the periods we're talking about, whether that's going to be caught during the Clean Zone major event period.
Richard WellsHOST
20:48
Yeah, and I think that was one of the major issues with the transport routes, quite frankly, because they were along some sections, like Dominion Road, where there are dozens of billboards just appearing.
Sarah ReddingHOST
21:02
That's right.
Richard WellsHOST
21:04
And I think that brings us nicely to a broader point about where the major events regime actually sits within the broader spectrum of New Zealand's intellectual property rights protection regime.
Edward AlderGUEST
1:54
I mean, to a degree, yes.
Edward AlderGUEST
1:56
One of the things when it comes to the messaging on billboards, for example, unless it's somewhere like a very congested road, like I remember there was one on Dominion Road that talked about traffic congestion, the actual, you know, what you actually see on billboards is pretty superficial.
Edward AlderGUEST
2:12
But that's understandable when you think, let's say, it's on a relatively normal sort of quasi-residential area.
Edward AlderGUEST
2:21
If you wanted to have a long message, someone's going to end up running into a power pole or something like that.
FletchHOST
5:11
Yep.
Hayley SproullHOST

It's not immediately coming up on, I don't live on Dominion Road.
Hayley SproullHOST
5:15
No, that's good.
Hayley SproullHOST
5:17
It's not immediately coming up.

Yeah, true.
Matilda GreenPANELIST
31:43
True.
Matt HeathHOST
39:04
But I am running quite a tip over here, aren't I? Certainly are.
Matt HeathHOST
39:08
Yeah, I think this is representative of my mind because I started preparing at Ralph's on Dominion Road, Great Bar in central Auckland.
Matt HeathHOST
39:19
I started preparing there quite early in the afternoon for the

Wallace ChapmanHOST

So give us an example of where they went.
James DuncanGUEST
16:02
Goodness, well, if we go to the North Herne Bay with the northernmost tram route in Auckland, and then we work our way on an anti-clockwise direction around the city isthmus, Point Chevalier, Avondale, Wairaka, Avondale, gosh, I'm losing it myself, Dominion Road, Mount Roskill, Three Kings, Onihanga, and of course rugby's on everybody's mind at the moment and of course a lot of people probably don't realise there used to be a loop behind the old grandstand at Eden Park and on big rugby games they'd have 30-odd trams all lined up on that loop while bringing people in and then lined up ready to take them all home back into Sandringham Road and back to the city again.
Wallace ChapmanHOST
16:44
Hang on, they would have 30 or 40 trams waiting outside Eden Park in a loop to take fans away?
James DuncanGUEST
16:53
They turned off Sandringham Road into this loop.
Catherine RyanHOST
4:47
And then whereabouts is the business in Auckland?
KahWen TanGUEST
4:50
So we're based in Dominion Road, just on the Mount Eden side.
Catherine RyanHOST
4:55
Nice spot.
KahWen TanGUEST
4:56
Yeah, it's a really great spot.
KahWen TanGUEST
6:14
So we very quickly realized, well, it was good for reliability.
KahWen TanGUEST
6:18
It wasn't so good for, shall we say, selling volume.
KahWen TanGUEST
6:22
So that was one of the big things we learned and sort of took a lot of time when we decided to go into brick and mortar is, you know, what's the location that's going to work best for us? And so that's how we sort of landed on Dominion Road was, you know, it's a lot of great great restaurants down that strip and so we were able to sort of capture the after dinner dessert sort of audience and also with the location there's a lot of residents close by who just might want an afternoon treat who would come by as well.
Catherine RyanHOST
6:51
That's interesting.
Max LayHOST

Yeah, I've actually been gently arguing with this about this with Shane and also my colleagues Richard Hills and Sarah Patterson-Hamlin.
Julie FaireyGUEST
17:46
And we're trying to work out what's the next public transport Christmas event because that's how it's out on Sunday, right? And we were talking about light rail down Dominion Road or Sandringham Road.
Julie FaireyGUEST
17:59
That's a big one for me.
Julie FaireyGUEST
18:01
The Avondale Southdown line, which...

The Avondale Southdown line, which KiwiRail has most of the land put aside and has rights over the land that it doesn't have to build a train line there.
