And then two years later, it was 2008, it's a presidential election.

I, by that point, am a professor at a small school in Chicago, wonderful place called Dominican University.

My son was two years old.

He had Down syndrome, again, if people are old enough to remember.

I care a thousand times more about academic freedom in the classroom than I do in the op-ed space.

But I can tell you that the classroom is not safe comparatively, especially when you have institutions themselves public institutions and conservative states that are themselves bad faith actors right um and not just that is is a real is is where they're the risks are just much bigger and institutions i would say have gotten better at not responding to bad faith internet harassment campaigns as if it was a pr crisis than they were 10 years ago if they want to be, so that I am not worried about a thousand people yelling about me on social media and the University of Minnesota overreacting.

Whereas in 2015, a thousand people yelling at me when I was at Dominican University and tagging Dominican University, or a thousand emails sent, that might seem like a real crisis.

And, you know, I don't think I would have been okay, because I knew Jessica, who ran marketing, she would have checked in with me and the president knew me and it was fine, but it would have seemed like a problem.

I took all my job experiences and I was able to do an internship and I was like, thank God I finally got in.

So I get into this internship at Dominican University in Chicago, haven't left since, been here for about 13 some odd years now.

And so during that time, I said, this is my passion.

This is where I'm supposed to be educating, educating, educating.

That's how I met Troy.

He's also an adjunct instructor at Dominican University in Illinois, which is just outside of Chicago.

Troy helped develop framework for the information literacy for higher education.

He's the author of several books, including the book Knowledge as Feeling, How Neuroscience and Psychology Impact Human Information Behavior.

Well, I did some research, and it turns out that there was no such study, or at least I couldn't, in my internet search, find that exact study.

But there actually has been a goal study done by Dominican University, a professor there, and in the, uh, notes of this video, I will link to that, to the summary of that study, uh, where she did invite, um, adults from, uh, I think it was m- dozens of different careers, uh, and she put them into five groups.

Basically, the first group did not write down their goals but merely thought about their goals.

And, you know, then the second group wrote down their goals specifically, and then the third group, I think, wrote them down as well as write some action commitments, and the fourth group, et cetera.

You want to create a series of small wins that build momentum.

Research from Dominican University shows that people who write down specific, measurable goals are 42% more likely to achieve them.

But here's what they don't tell you.

The goals need to be the right size.

Turn on the lights, turn on the fans, take some fries out, take the burger buns out.

Naran is 19, and up until last fall, he was just a college student at Dominican University.

He loved watching football and sending Instagram reels to his friends.

But everything changed for him when his dad, Asif Amin Chima, was detained by federal immigration agents.

As a child, I went to school, learned how to play and love and fail and persevere in Spanish.

I have an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley, a master's degree from NYU, an honorary doctorate from Dominican University, and prestigious post-doc fellowships from Stanford and Harvard, all in the English language.

My own Nahuatl Pipil, the language my great-great-grandma Fina spoke and taught a few words to Abuelita Nelly, whose name means truth, is now a language that only a few hundred elders remain speaking fluently.

But, fortunately, there's a huge movement to revitalize and rescue Nahuatl Pipil.
