Dolemite Is My Name

So I have a game plan.

So one of the game plans is, okay, how do we get this in theaters, right? And so I started having this idea based off like, Dolomite is my name.

Well, you like Rudy Ray Moore and those guys and that era basically saved Hollywood.

People don't know that.

All right.

Eddie Murphy starred in Dolemite Is My Name, which stars Keegan-Michael Key, which did a skit with Malcolm Barrett, who plays in The Boys with Jack Quaid.

Hell yeah.

Good connection.

Dolomite.

Dolemite is the name.

That's in my top five Eddie Murphy movies.

The Dolemite joint.

Yeah, he was good in that movie.

Yeah, he was hilarious in that.

That, he's- That's in my top five Eddie Murphy movies.

I mean, everybody here is having such a fun time, and if, again, this, there's a sincerity and a fun to it.

I, I kept thinking a lot about, uh, Dolemite Is My Name.

Sure.

And that idea of friends getting people together with a common vision, inspiring them behind that common vision.

It's such a fun movie to see with a crowd.

Everyone should really watch Dolemite Is My Name.

It's just the kind of film that only Netflix would finance.

but is impossible to gain any traction on Netflix.

But hey, hey, look.

Eddie made one of my favorite biopics of all time, Dolomite Is My Name, and he will always be great with that.

I fucking love that movie.

What a fantastic movie about the independent spirit and the creation and use of community to inspire art.

With awful movie after

Except for Dolomite Is My Name.

Yeah.

But the fact that they're all, like, listening to a guy like Eric Anderson, as opposed to the audience that loved the movie.

Now, in fairness, a friend of mine did see it and said that it was like, you know, like a Dolomite or, yeah.

Yeah.

Wasn't there a movie called Dolomite?

Dolomite is my name.

Yeah.

Dolomite is like that, like kitschy, kind of like that.

And so if that's the case, then, yeah, it'll be harder sell for best picture.

yeah, but this is not a Dolomite is my name where he's directing but you have Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski doing the script for that doing like exactly the kind of script they do so well.

with with you know something like that it's like Dolomite is my name is a sort of if it ain't broke don't fix it not retread of Ed Wood but it's hitting the same beats as Ed Wood and I mean Ed Wood is great Dolomite is great if it works for them it works for them Larry Karaszewski follows the podcast I don't know if he listens to it but if he does thank you you write some very good movies out there sir but But yeah, I just, I think this movie is ultimately a victim of, because the thing that I saw, I think it was on IMDb Trivia or something, that Brewer saw the documentary in 2008 and then like 15 years later optioned it for like, hey, that could be a good movie.
