The reason being is that there's a new Dolby Atmos edition of the Dukes of Stratosphere collection, a surround-about ride that collects all their recordings.

You know, it's kind of got a

gritty thing going on, you know.

Anyway, it's funny because all these people remix, do Dolby Atmos and surround mixes, or even new stereo mixes of tracks that I recorded and mixed in one space of mind, you know.

So you never recorded it thinking someone else was going to mix it.

I mean, I've seen it three times in theaters and in different formats.

having seen it in one, four, three 70 millimeter, having seen it in Dolby and having seen it in IMAX, just regular one nine that most people had access to.

I think the one nine has been the best.

Cause I think a lot of the times in the one, four, three, you know, if it's on film, it could be a little faded.

And that six track or 12 channel audio that you get.

I've heard, yeah,

Dolby is the best.

And specifically, I heard Dolby specifically is the

time? I saw Obsession for the first time a couple days before it came out at a little like preview screening and it was in a packed Dolby audience and this is what the communal experience is all about.

The interactions with the audience with certain scenes it was like nervous laughter, gasping, yelling at the screen, screaming at certain moments, even like literally giggling throughout but in a good way like it was just such a good experience and I love that we have original horror.

I love franchise horror.

And my friend would let me...

One week, he let me record, because I was into recording, too, and I had a little stereo Sony two-track with a tabletop Dolby unit that had just come out.

And he let me record a week of The Dead, and it was the week Garcia was also playing Pedal Steel with the new Riders of the Purple Sage.

And they were doing two shows a night, which is insane if you think about it.

I mean, they've got a top-notch streaming service, which is one of the highest quality.

It's one of the higher bandwidth services, particularly in downloading Dolby Atmos at 768K, which is a much, much higher rate than most of the competition.

except Sony Pictures Core, which is probably the best streaming service, but a very limited selection.

Apple could put something into place that could compete with Kaleidoscape, but it would be a different kind of system.

As I'm hearing all this new technology that's coming out year after year, I don't know if you guys feel this way, but I feel like every year we're kind of lied to a little bit or kind of omitted something.

Something isn't given, like all the information's not there.

Like we just got the big news about Dolby Vision 2 last year, but no news at this show on Dolby Vision 2 and no news about whether it's going to be supported in any players.

No.

And

the last thing we'll talk about today, one of our listeners, Scott, he sent us an email asking us to discuss Dolby AC4.

So that's what we're going to do today.

Dolby AC4 is Dolby's next generation audio codec for broadcasting and streaming.

It was designed as a clean sheet replacement for the older Dolby Digital family, not a tweak of it.

And compared with Dolby Digital+, AC4 aims for smaller or better quality at roughly half the bit rate.

Similar, sorry, similar or better quality.

So smaller files, better quality.

Escape and all the Dolby's and 4K cinematic.

Yeah, I have Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos.

Yeah, that one's up there.

I already have it.

And I checked it out this weekend.

So, it is IMAX enhanced.

Of course, 4K, Ultra HD, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, all the good stuff.

But there's foley work, sound effects, there's background noise.

A lot of them are recorded in Dolby Surround sound, so it's fully captive.

The Dungeon Crawler Carl books in it are insane.

I can only imagine.
