Dog Aging Project

Scientists are getting closer to answering those questions.

New research from the Dog Aging Project has identified biological signals in dogs' blood associated with longevity.

Researchers analyzed blood samples from over 900 dogs participating in this nationwide study to determine long-term effect, why some dogs age more successfully than other dogs.

The scientists examined metabolites.

I think first of all is the fact that gerontology in dogs and cats, the research is really coming together.

And we have the Dog Aging Project in the States where they have a cohort of thousands of dogs, where they're using them as a model of aging in humans because they follow the same process.

So a growing understanding of the biology of aging and where we can intervene and in which stages.

What can we do about the inflammation? What can we do about the metabolic changes? What can we do about the microbiome changes? N- we don't know all of that yet, but we know that we do have a role to play.

You led one of the coolest studies called the Dog Aging Project, where you actually researched rapamycin in dogs and have been using that research to help inform some of our aging.

So it's a science citizen study.

It's funded by a $15 million grant from the National Council on Aging.
