So let's talk about what would have happened if the exact scenario occurred, for example, in a Texas district court.

The judge would call the docket, the defendant would fail to answer, the defense attorney would state that they have had no contact with their client, and then the prosecutor would move for immediate bond forfeiture, and then the judge would sign a judgment declaring the bail bond forfeited, and then the court would issue a specialized bench warrant commanding any peace officer in the state of Texas to arrest the defendant and hold them without bond.

And then the underlying indictment would be placed on an inactive or fugitive docket.

So that's where an American case would halt.

The prosecution wouldn't be able to present witness testimony, the victim would not be able to testify, and the judge can't enter a guilty verdict.

The parents of murdered teen Celeste Rivas have filed a wrongful death complaint against singer David.

He's already facing criminal charges after police say he allegedly killed Rivas because she threatened to expose their sexual relationship.
