If they had like a DJ that was like, like Spinderella, even though she would kind of didn't really get a chance to actually mix anything.

It was Salt-N-Pepa and you knew that Spinderella was there.

For them, it's like whoever's producing, you know, it's going to be hot depending on the name that's on it, where the influence is coming from.

Hip-hop, for instance, has historically celebrated women producers such as DJ Spinderella and Code9.

Yet even there, production credits often get sidelined by executive producer roles that don't get public visibility.

On the other hand, in EDM, a surge of female beat makers has occurred, partially driven by online communities where sample libraries are openly shared.
