Dixon Place

And then I went back and rewrote again.

And finally in 2022, I think we had our first sort of workshop production at Dixon Place in New York City, and we got on our feet in front of an audience, and it was fantastic to do that.

People were really joyful to be back in theaters.

And, and we played the show a bunch of nights.

So I was writing this screenplay for myself.

And Mike was like, do you want to have a reading of it at Dixon Place? And I was like, you don't even know it.

He's like, yeah, but I trust you.

I was like, really? Oh, yes.

So trying to see things, trying to read things and understand what your own taste is and what you might want to make, I think, is part of it.

And then I think trying to make work, whether that's at like Dixon Place or the Tank or places where there is access to do things that are one-off or two-offs or...

Just trying to get something up and get people to see it and get some reps in and start doing whatever that means, whether it's writing or directing.

I think that that is so important because you have to have a chance to try and fail.

I went to the piers.

In preparation for nightlife gigs at venues like The Box, Dixon Place, and Suzanne Barge's parties, I became a peer dancer.

One afternoon in June 2013, as I pranced around and beat out my rhythms, careful not to trip on the gaps between the planks, I noticed two mysterious people were sitting, watching me.

In this picturesque location, I was accustomed to people gathering and recording my dancing, or that of the voguing peer dancers.

And of course it got, you know, pushed aside.

And then Dixon Place in 22, I guess, they were like, oh, well, do you want to try to do it? So we did it and it sort of became this big like sellout hit.

So we brought it back.

We did it again.
