Disenchantment

It feels like this should be the moment the human race graduates, right? We should have outgrown the need for the temple entirely.

This is where we must introduce the legendary sociologist Max Weber and his concept of Ensoberung, which translates to the disenchantment of the world.

Disenchantment.

Wait, I need to pause here.

Disenchantment sounds like a tragedy, but wasn't the Enlightenment supposed to be humanity's great intellectual triumph?

We figured out how the universe actually works.

Right.

It is.

And the name of his book is The Myth of Disenchantment, Magic, Modernity, and the Birth of Human Sciences.

It's a 2017 book, and it basically challenges mainstream sort of sociological conceptions of disenchantment on both empirical and theoretical grounds.

So I highly recommend the book.
