Disc protrusion

She had a lot of muscle spasm in her low back, and there were a couple other orthopedic tests that also gave her pelvic pain and pain in her, in the back of her thigh.

She had previously had a, an MRI of the low back, which showed a two to three millimeter disc protrusion at L5 S1.

Uh, the other- Uh, physicians that she had seen were-- told her that the disc protrusion could not be causing her symptoms.

But according to the, the physical exam that I did, um, that matched with the MRI, and it's because the S1 and the S2 nerve roots run very close to the, those L5, S1 discs.

And so those, that disc protrusion can be causing both mechanical and chemical irritation of those nerves.

So...

And we were able to recreate that in the physical exam, so that told me that she likely had either an S1 or S2 radiculopathy.

The, um, the nerve roots exit the spine much higher in the spine, up at T12, L1.
