Disappearance of Dennis Martin

It's from season one, episode six.

The story actually pretty closely follows stories like the Dennis Martin case, and then it also includes some elements of those I'm a park ranger and there are things we don't understand in these woods stories.

So it's kind of a combination of the Missing 411 archetype and the park ranger story creepypasta archetype.

Of course, a family goes camping and then their three-year-old son disappears.

Like, I understand.

I know that the episode was probably filmed a year before I ever made my video, but the timing is uncanny.

And then, there's another revelation very akin to a certain missing 401 case about a boy named Dennis Martin, because in the hunt for Jacob, the Army Rangers take part.

Now, of course, the Army Rangers and the Green Berets are not the same thing, but they are both special operations.

Here are four cases that boggle the mind.

At the time of her disappearance, Teresa Lynn Trini Gibson was a 16-year-old Bearden High School student from Knoxville, Tennessee, which is, oddly enough, the same city and neighborhood where Dennis Martin lived when he vanished only seven years prior.

On October 8th, 1976, Trini and her classmates had been treated to a surprise field trip by their science teacher.

According to the official story, the students didn't know where they would be going until they were already en route on the bus.

There is still the possibility that Derek looking is not in the park and we would like to make sure the information is out there so people can look for Derek out in the world.

We have not given up hope on finding Derek and are doing everything in our power to work with and help the Rangers who are investigating as well as trying to make sure the information is out in the world as well.

One of the most puzzling and disturbing disappearances in the Great Smoky Mountains is that of Dennis Martin.

Just six years old when he vanished, Dennis made a huge impression on me.

According to the National Park Service, there have been over 1,600 disappearances since President Franklin Roosevelt formally dedicated the park in September of 1940.

On June 14, 1969, six-year-old Dennis Martin went missing while playing with his family in the park.

He was never found, despite a thorough search involving hundreds of people, and the case remains unsolved.

On October 8, 1976, Trini Gibson, who was 16 years old, was hiking with around 40 students from Bearden High School in Knoxville when she disappeared.

They found the rusted husks of old moonshine stills.

They even found the bones of a different person who had gone missing years prior, but they didn't find a single trace of Dennis Martin.

If the story ended there, it would be a tragic, heartbreaking tale of a child lost to the elements.

But this is the Appalachian Mountains, and the mysteries here are rarely that simple.

The most terrifying piece of the Dennis Martin puzzle didn't happen at Spence Field.

It happened a few miles away, down in a rugged, heavily wooded drainage called Rowans Creek.

Right around the exact time Dennis stepped behind that bush, a man named Harold Key was hiking down near the creek with his family.

They looked at the fact that the Green Berets were allegedly armed, treating the forest not like a rescue grid, but like a combat zone.

Since his discovery and funeral, Jeff's case has remained a case of exposure.

But how did he end up alone and in a position to perish? What caused him to disappear in such a narrow time frame? And why did nobody see or hear anything? Is Jeff's case a simple one of getting lost and succumbing to the elements? Or is there something darker going on in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park? If you recall, this was only about a year after Dennis Martin disappeared in the Great Smoky Mountains Park, never to be found again.

Cullen Finnerty 30-year-old Cullen Finnerty had a whole host of accolades under his belt.

Is there something nefarious behind Kenny's disappearance? Although it seems likely, it also seems likely that we'll never know.

Dennis was the light of his parents' lives, and what should have been a happy, joyful Father's Day in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park quickly turned into a nightmare for the Martin family.

Obtain a helicopter if possible.

It appears that every effort was made to locate Dennis and in total, over 1,400 showed up to help look.

Like, we don't know, and all I can hope is that he didn't suffer.

Now, like I said, Dennis' family wasn't there.

He wasn't by himself in some, you know, wilderness area.
