This is very much a Dirty John story.

Well, the chick that killed the original Dirty John got the story.

Anyway, but there's a whole series based on different stories of these kind of con men that move in on these women.

And so it's become kind of their Dirty Johns.

Right.

I loved this podcast.

I feel like we listen to so many true crime podcasts and so many of them are like murderers or serial killers or like somebody like Dirty John.

And what I loved about this to me This was a fresh story.

And even though I could have Googled this story and I could have found out what happened with these boys and what the eventual conclusion was, I held myself back from doing that because the storytelling in this podcast was done in such a way that.

[upbeat music] But as many different types of shows as there were, one format did accrue the lion's share of prestige, narrative.

Shows like In the Dark, S-Town, and Missing Richard Simmons were sparking cultural conversations and winning awards, and podcasts like Dirty John and Homecoming were being picked up for glossy TV adaptations.

Suddenly, being a podcaster is an actual potential job.

There's a whole new industry that never existed when I first started thinking about working in radio of, like-

It wasn't just regular tricking, like, you know, he was like, "Okay."

Oh, so yeah, he was a Dirty John.
