Dirk Pitt

Yeah, I think it's one reason people like to read them.

It's kind of like Dirk Pitt Sr. He's always Dirk Pitt Sr. He's always a really good guy.

Yeah.

So one thing in this book, too, is like when you think about, you know, he is just a character, but all of our characters somehow come up against this concept of honor.

He would save people.

He would show up and I think the main character is like Dirk.

Dirk Pitt or Dirk or something.

And he would be like out in the middle of the ocean floating on a raft.

And Clive Cussler would show up with his sailboat and rescue him.

... with the wrong characters.

Bruce Wayne, Dirk Pitt, Leonidas, and Natalya Semyonova must work together to fight against a race of fire-breathing creatures that have laid waste to England.

Oh.

[laughs] Well, uh, it's another, uh, another dragon movie.

Maybe you should be doing Clive Kessler in Space.

You know, Dirk Pitt steals the universe.

You know, we need to talk about that in After Dark.

We need to talk about that in After Dark.

Released in 2005, the movie is based on Clive Cussler's novel and features a star-studded cast including Matthew McConaughey, Penelope Cruz and Steve Zahn.

The plot revolves around Dirk Pitt, played by Matthew Moo Conahay, a treasure hunter with a penchant for adventure who embarks on a quest to find a lost Confederate ironclad battleship rumoured to be buried in the Sahara Desert.

Alongside his loyal sidekick Al Giordino, played by Steve Zahn, and the determined Dr. Eva Rojas, played by Penelope Cruz, Pitt uncovers a conspiracy involving a Malian dictator and a French industrialist threatening to unleash a global epidemic.

The film opens with Dr Eva Rojas discovering a deadly plague in West Africa, setting the stage for a series of high-octane escapades.

Despite its energetic pace and visually stunning set pieces, Sahara struggles with a plot that often stretches the limits of believability.

The idea of a Civil War era ship making its way across the Atlantic and ending up in the African desert is as far-fetched as it sounds, yet the film embraces its own absurdity with a sense of humour that keeps the audience entertained.

Matthew McConaughey's portrayal of Dirk Pitt is charismatic, albeit a bit over the top, with his character's rugged charm and relentless optimism shining through.

Steve Zahn provides comic relief as Al Giordino, whose chemistry with McConaughey adds a buddy cop dynamic to the film.
