CBS before we play Oregon.
Braden RussellHOST

How do you find growth in that market? No one's adding more TV service.
Braden RussellHOST
13:30
No one's adding more premium channels like they used to, or more DVRs that you used to charge for.
Braden RussellHOST
13:35
So it's going to be interesting to watch how the cable companies try to grow and expand and what they move into to replace the growth that they had in years past.
Ara DerderianHOST

Yeah.
Bob LonsberryHOST
12:03
I think it was on Saturday nights, wasn't it? Was it on Fox? Is that where it first came on? Like when Fox was a new thing? And I think it was Saturday nights.
Bob LonsberryHOST
12:13
And back then, we didn't have DVRs and whatever like that.
Bob LonsberryHOST
12:17
A show was on a certain day at a certain time, and you watched it on that certain day at that certain time, or you were SOL.
Bob LonsberryHOST

and just loved it.

And of course, you know, this was, you might've recorded something on a VCR or but there were no DVRs, it was no streaming, so it was very much more appointment television, where if you didn't watch it on the original broadcast, you likely weren't going to see it.
JeremiahGUEST
8:08
And just, you know, for the younger generation that might be listening to this, like at that time, VCRs were considered like, you know, highfalutin, you know, complicated technology to certain people, including my parents, you know, so where, you know, people couldn't even set the clock on their VCR.
JeremiahGUEST
8:24
So trying to get it to record one channel while you're watching a different channel, like that was probably beyond what most people could, you know, work out for themselves at the time.
Fred FroehlichHOST
17:08
Tell me what you think, though.
Fred FroehlichHOST
17:09
Which show, if you have to choose between the two, and I get it, we all have DVRs nowadays, but if you had to choose between one or the other, SmackDown, a taped episode from December 28th, or a live AEW Dynamite New Year's Smash episode, which one are you tuning into? And why? Give it to me in the comments.
Fred FroehlichHOST
17:28
I'll respond down below.
Fred FroehlichHOST
17:29
All right? For now, though, that's all the time we have for this episode.
Pink Bella AlohaGUEST

It's crazy.
Pink Bella AlohaGUEST

Pink Bella AlohaGUEST

MichaelAUDIENCE
10:38
Now, I have converted to television.
MichaelAUDIENCE
10:40
I do like baseball on television because With DVRs and big screen, flat screen TVs and HD and 4K, I'm able to see what's going on better than what I could when we had picture tubes as a kid.
MichaelAUDIENCE
10:55
That's very interesting.
MichaelAUDIENCE
10:57
I like baseball on the radio.
James KernanHOST
11:30
Those are two simple examples as well.
James KernanHOST
11:33
Another creative one for those of you that do on-prem security, maybe you've got DVRs with cameras, you know, wrap that into a bundle and add that to your month of recurring services.
James KernanHOST
11:44
you know, do little firmware updates and camera checkups and cover that for a price.
Amy BabinchakHOST
11:50
You need to develop a relationship with the people that provide the internet to your clients and make sure that you're on the sale for that because that company, not your client, but that company will start paying you a monthly recurring revenue for obtaining that customer for them.
Warner BaileyHOST
44:04
Can you tell our viewers a bit about vanity cards? Then I have another one to share with you as well.
Chuck LorreGUEST
44:09
This was like 1996, and there was no DVRs.
Chuck LorreGUEST
44:15
um there was no way to actually it was almost impossible to read those things unless you had a really really good VCR the letters would wobble it was unreadable and I I uh I saw it early on uh I'm not going to get away with this this is this is they give you two seconds to have a vanity card that's a tradition in television like I didn't create it I but when uh when the opportunity came about to have one for Dharma and Greg, this seemed like a really cool idea, just to maybe write something that was funny, maybe had jokes in it, maybe had something amusing or interesting in it, make it worth going to the trouble of trying to read it.
Chuck LorreGUEST
45:01
And ultimately, a couple of years into it, uh the DVRs came about and uh now everybody's reading it and and now there are lawyers
Tanya CohenGUEST
45:13
and
Chuck LorreGUEST
45:14
now the the network uh lawyers are saying no no you can't say this so uh oh so I I would actually the uh the vanity card would simply say censored but you know where to look and I had a website chucklory.com And if you really wanted to read it, you could go read it.
Robert SicilianoGUEST
55:26
And there's an app that comes with that.
Robert SicilianoGUEST
55:29
And that app is constantly scanning my Internet of Things printers, DVRs, digital video recorders for my cameras, every phone, every tablet, every laptop, desktop, everything that connects to my internet, the app that is connected to my router slash modem is scanning for vulnerabilities.
Robert SicilianoGUEST
55:55
It's scanning firmware, it's scanning software, it's scanning the hardware.
Robert SicilianoGUEST
55:59
And it's letting me know if there's any vulnerabilities, if I need to make any updates in regards to firmware and or software.
